Wishing My Husband Dead (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
A few days later, Cordelia was visiting Leonard’s bedroom as usual, chattering away about nothing in particular, when the door suddenly burst open without warning.
“Craig!”
“Lady Mother.”
There was only one person in this estate who could behave with such a lack of courtesy.
Cordelia immediately rose and gave Helena a light bow.
Of course, Helena pretended not to see Cordelia at all and walked straight toward Craig.
“Are you well enough to stand and move around now?”
“…….”
“Oh, Craig. Seeing you alive and moving like this… I’m truly—*sob*—truly relieved. Do you even know how worried I’ve been?”
Helena forced out tears. She stretched both arms out to hug her son, but Leonard subtly sidestepped her.
Before the atmosphere grew even more awkward, Cordelia quickly stepped between them.
“He’s gotten much better. His movements are quite lively now.”
“Craig, do you remember anything yet?”
“What.”
He jerked his chin dismissively, acting incredibly arrogant—but surprisingly, Helena seemed delighted by his attitude.
“Well, even if you don’t recall old memories, at least your personality hasn’t changed one bit. Your memory will probably come back soon too.”
His uncooperative demeanor actually helped ease their suspicions.
After all, how many people would suspect that another soul had taken residence in his body after he’d come back from death?
“Even if Jared shows up, you’ll handle him just fine, won’t you? I believe only in my dear Craig.”
“Jared?”
“Oh, your cousin. Jared Abrams.”
“One of those hyenas who rushed in smelling blood.”
Helena cut off Cordelia’s explanation mid-sentence and immediately interjected, pretending to wipe away false tears.
“Craig, you can’t possibly let Jared take your title as Count from you.”
“Huh. Whatever.”
“You must get right up and show him you’re perfectly well. Only then can your poor mother rest easy.”
After that, Helena launched into an endless stream of nagging disguised as concern.
Of course, Leonard didn’t even pretend to listen.
“I’m tired.”
He had worn a detached expression the whole time, but as Helena’s lecture dragged on, he finally spoke up.
“Oh my, Cordelia—what are you doing? Hurry up and let Craig rest already.”
“Yes.”
Helena forgot entirely that she herself had been holding him back this whole time and naturally scolded Cordelia instead.
Cordelia helped Leonard back onto the bed.
“Then rest well.”
Helena carefully examined Leonard’s much-recovered state, then left the bedroom with a rather satisfied look on her face.
The moment the door closed, Leonard scowled.
“Were we ever this close?”
“No. You weren’t particularly close in the past either. But since the previous Count died suddenly and Craig’s the only one she can rely on now, she’s acting affectionate.”
“Makes sense.”
He glared disdainfully at the spot where Helena had stood. Cordelia gave an awkward smile and changed the subject.
“By the way, you’re recovering really quickly. I heard you even went out to the garden by yourself yesterday?”
“Even then, I couldn’t walk for more than an hour before turning back.”
“The physician said it’s a miracle you can even stand on your own two feet right now.”
“Well, if that’s not a miracle, what is? A living soul entered a dead body and kept it from rotting—now it’s moving.”
Leonard replied curtly. Hearing the phrase ‘dead body,’ Cordelia stared intently at him and asked,
“Does that mean… Craig is truly dead?”
“This body? Yes. His soul had already left, which is why I could enter it.”
“Oh. Really.”
“Really?”
Trending
“I’m glad to hear that.”
An unexpected word slipped from her lips. Cordelia smiled in relief.
“I was scared that if you ever returned to your original body, you might regain your senses—and become him again.”
“…….”
“It’s reassuring to know he’s truly gone.”
Leonard stared fixedly at Cordelia’s profile, taken aback by her brutally honest reaction. His gaze was quite persistent.
“Why are you staring like that?”
“Cold-blooded.”
“Oh dear, what on earth are you talking about? The cold-blooded one is clearly you, my lord.”
Cordelia smiled brightly like a child, her eyes cheerful. Leonard let out an exasperated sigh and said incredulously,
“You’re telling me you have warmer blood than someone who says ‘I’m glad my husband’s dead’?”
“Oh my. A poor widow begged and pleaded with tears for even a scrap of magic, yet you, utterly heartless and tearless, turned her away. Don’t compare yourself to me.”
“Heartless and tearless? Ha! Do you think magic is some child’s game? That throwing a tantrum gets you whatever you want?”
“But you said I have talent! Isn’t it a waste of that talent? I might even become someone who leaves a mark on the magical world!”
“Who knows? Maybe someone will think you’re a genius beyond compare. Listen, being able to see magic and actually being able to use it are two completely different things.”
“But it’s true I have an advantage over others when it comes to learning magic.”
She wasn’t wrong. Had he met her at age five, Leonard wouldn’t have hesitated to take Cordelia as his apprentice.
“You’re far too old to start learning magic now. Even the latest you should begin is before age ten if you ever hope to achieve anything.”
“I don’t want to become some great mage or anything. I just want to learn enough to be called ‘Master Mage’ somewhere, you know? That’s all.”
“That’s exactly what I won’t allow. If you’re going to be my apprentice, you must accomplish at least one star! Don’t talk about ‘just enough.’”
“Star? What star?”
“……Never mind. I’m arguing about stars with someone who doesn’t even know what they are. Just go. I’m tired.”
Leonard hadn’t realized he’d raised his voice in agitation until he caught his own reflection in the window and paused.
A bitter laugh escaped him. He suddenly felt the full weight of his fallen state. The real him would never have wasted time on such a ridiculous argument with her.
“Already? I haven’t even been here that long… Fine. Then I won’t even mention the word ‘magic’ from now on.”
“I told you to leave. Why can’t you understand simple words?”
Despite Leonard’s icy rebuff, Cordelia stood her ground. She forced a smile and deftly changed the subject. Thankfully, he didn’t try to send her away again.
“Oh, by the way—have you heard? Lily’s coming soon.”
“Who’s that?”
“Craig’s half-sister. Helena’s Lady Mother’s own daughter. She’s married into the Dalia family now and is Countess Dalia. And she adores you.”
“Right. That’s truly useful information. I’ll give her a hug when I meet her.”
Leonard replied in an utterly indifferent tone. Cordelia covered her mouth with one hand and chuckled softly.
“And she absolutely loathes me. Probably more than anyone else in the world?”
“Why? Did you stab her with a knife after calling her over for a chat?”
“You too?”
He tapped his abdomen lightly. Only then did Cordelia realize it was his younger brother who’d done that, and her eyes widened slightly.
“Wow… No, I’ve never done anything nearly that extreme, yet she hates me the most in the world. That’s kind of unfair. I’ve never even stabbed anyone with a knife.”
“So what did you do?”
“Nothing at all. To be precise, she hates me just for existing as Craig’s wife.”
Cordelia shrugged. Though her time with Lily hadn’t been long, Lily had tormented her so severely that even the patient Cordelia had been driven to her limits.
“But why did your lordship’s younger brother kill you? Was it really just to inherit the title?”
“Who knows? I’ll have to ask him when I see him again.”
Leonard’s voice dropped instantly. At first, all he’d felt upon waking was hatred toward Maximilian—but as time passed, other questions had begun to surface.
Why had Maximilian made such an extreme choice? Why had he tried to cut short the life of his own blood brother?
“Still, the Assembly isn’t foolish—if the murder were obvious, they wouldn’t approve the succession.”
“But they can’t leave the seat vacant forever, no matter how much the Assembly refuses to recognize it.”
“Couldn’t they choose another heir instead?”
“There isn’t one. And even if there were, Maximilian wouldn’t have stood by and allowed it.”
“True—given the Atirai family’s status, they couldn’t leave the seat empty for long. Time is on his side, then.”
“Yes. So I must reclaim it before that happens. My seat.”

He clenched his fist with solemn determination. Cordelia, seated on a chair beside the bed, nodded gravely in agreement.
“It’s such a shame. I wish I could be of real help to you, my lord. Perhaps as an apprentice, supporting you from your side…?”
“What?”
“Well, I can see magic, right? Who knows? If an assassin ever uses magic, maybe I’ll blast them away and save your life!”
He didn’t know where to even begin correcting her.
She’d just delivered a perfectly serious speech—and even sneakily slipped in a request to become his apprentice. He couldn’t help but laugh weakly.
“Huh? You’re laughing. You’re actually laughing right now?”
“Shut up.”
“Does imagining me as your apprentice make you feel so secure that you can’t help but laugh?”
“Just be quiet.”
“Don’t you need a reliable apprentice?”
[This is the timeline separator]“Roti… What should I do?”
Cordelia was crouched in a corner of the stables. In front of her, a scruffy, unremarkable gray dog was hastily devouring meat.
“How can I make that man… not even on my side, really. I’d just be happy if he’d teach me even a scrap of magic.”
The dog had apparently finished eating; it sniffed around in the straw, looking rather disappointed.
“You’re already done? I should’ve brought more.”
When Cordelia reached out to stroke the dog’s back, it flinched and backed away. At that, Cordelia pouted, clearly hurt.
“It’s been over a year since we first met like this, yet you still won’t even let me pet your head.”
She’d given it a name and often brought it food, yet the dog still hadn’t opened its heart to her.
“But that’s okay. Just live a long, healthy life—that’s all I ask.”
Her first ‘Roti’ had died after being wounded during a fox hunt with her father, unable to recover from the injury.
Her father had only scolded the dog for being weak and never gave it proper treatment.
Young Cordelia had stayed by dying Roti’s side day and night, desperate to save it—but in the end, it had left her, cold and still.
This second Roti shared only its gray fur with the first, yet for some reason, her eyes kept drifting toward it.
“Wait here a moment. I’ll go get some more meat.”
Crrrk. Roti, who had been sniffing around for leftover scraps, suddenly growled low, staring into empty air.
“What’s wrong?”
“Good day to you.”
“Eek!”
A human voice spoke in the otherwise empty stable. Cordelia jumped and looked around in alarm—but no matter how hard she searched, not a single person was in sight.
“Oh. Over here, Countess.”
“Over here?”
A pale, palm-sized object was waving energetically atop the water-filled feed trough.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
