Cordelia regained consciousness at the edge of an unfamiliar village. A passing traveler, spotting a woman collapsed in the bushes, assumed she was a corpse and began rifling through her pockets—until their eyes met.

“Aaahh!”

The old man shrieked and fled, tumbling backward. He must have thought the corpse had risen.

Cordelia had no energy to spare for him. Her waist ached as if she’d just awakened from a very long sleep, and her whole body felt stiff and sore, as if she’d suffered a fever—limp and utterly drained.

The first thing filling her mind was Serbet, the gentle demon who shared her eyes. Just thinking of him brought tears to her eyes.

‘I couldn’t even say thank you before leaving.’

She hugged her arms tightly, recalling the last touch of Serbet’s hand. She didn’t know if she’d ever see him again, but his words would keep her going each day. Gathering strength into her legs, she stood firmly upright.

She didn’t know where she was, but Cordelia wasn’t worried. She raised her left arm and pressed a kiss to her bracelet. Then she thought of Leonard. Merely picturing his beautiful platinum hair and mysterious violet eyes made her heart flutter.
