“After all, no matter how much he claims not to remember, a person’s fundamental character doesn’t just disappear.”

“And you said you couldn’t even recognize his face, right?”

“Yes.”

“But he somehow knows how the estate’s funds are being spent? Can memories really return so selectively like that?”

Helena’s remark was quite sharp. Only then did Arnold’s head grow cold.

“Hmm. Either he remembers absolutely nothing, or he knows everything—it’s got to be one of those two.”

“If he truly remembered everything, it’d be suspicious that he hasn’t once visited his beloved mistress, whom he used to dote on so much.”

“Exactly, sister.”

Helena had reached what, in Cordelia’s opinion, was the most logical conclusion.

This Craig was not the same man she’d known for decades. No one could possibly change this drastically.

Unless someone was pulling the strings from behind, there was no other explanation.

Cordelia Vasquez. That cunning woman was undoubtedly scheming behind the scenes.

“She must be planning to pin some absurd blame on me, push me out, and then use Craig to take control of the Abrams estate.”

“Oh, that explains why Craig’s been clinging to her ever since he woke up. What a despicable woman.”

“We took her in out of pity—even after a whole year of marriage, she still hasn’t borne a single heir.”

Helena grumbled and spent a while hurling curses and insults toward Cordelia.

Then she suddenly fell silent. Some shocking idea had just crossed her mind. After a long pause, Arnold asked,

“What’s wrong?”

“She’s useless anyway, isn’t she?”

“Well, yes. We only spent so much money bringing her in because of her bloodline. Otherwise, we could’ve easily found a woman with better terms.”

“Then we should get rid of her.”

“Pardon?”

“Why keep someone who’s neither useful nor necessary?”

After all, she’d never liked that woman from the start. It was the late previous earl who’d insisted on marrying into the Vasquez family to secure the bloodline.

Once they removed that troublesome woman, they could finally bring in someone who truly suited Helena’s taste.

Helena smiled faintly. Her smile reeked of warm blood. Arnold instantly understood her intention.

“What method would be best?”

“Look into it. You’ll find something incriminating soon enough.”

“Yes.”

“Oh, and since that woman is so careless, no one would think twice if she ate something she shouldn’t and fell ill, right?”

“Ah.”

Arnold let out a quiet gasp.

After all, it wasn’t unheard of for the estate’s cook to accidentally add something forbidden to the food.

“I’ll make preparations.”

“Good.”

[This is the timeline separator]

“Good day.”

She was muttering magic formulas as she walked down the corridor when a stranger’s voice made Cordelia look up—and she was startled to recognize the person.

“Oh, Baron Lancaster.”

“It’s been a while, Countess. I hope you’ve been well?”

The black-haired man smiled gently and gave a light bow.

Though he appeared to be just another handsome nobleman, Baron Lancaster owned the largest trading company in the territory.

Because he held the purse strings, even Helena dared not treat him carelessly—he wielded immense influence even within the earl’s household.

“Yes, indeed. I heard you went to the mines in the south—when did you return?”

“Not long ago.”

Looking at his face, she remembered he always wore that enigmatic smile, earning him the nickname “the young raccoon.”

Normally, he’d have completely ignored Cordelia without even a greeting, but today, for some reason, he kept striking up friendly conversation.

“I heard you’ve been spending a great deal of time with the earl lately.”

“Well, Craig’s body still hasn’t fully recovered, after all.”

“So the earl must be relying on you quite a bit. He’s stopped inviting outsiders into the estate altogether, unlike before.”

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

She knew very well that “outsiders” referred to Craig’s mistress.

Yet Cordelia merely smiled with feigned ignorance. Inside, however, her thoughts churned.

‘What’s gotten into this raccoon? Why’s he being so clingy today? If I’m late, my master’s going to scold me.’

“The earl has changed so much—pushing away those close to him and bringing near those he once ignored.”

“Has he? I hadn’t noticed. Craig’s always been rather fickle, you know.”

“Is that so? How coincidental.”

She couldn’t ask what exactly was so “coincidental.” At that moment, the baron’s servant swiftly approached and whispered something into his ear.

Lancaster’s expression shifted—but only for a split second. He quickly resumed his inscrutable smile and said politely,

“Pray forgive my rudeness, but I must take my leave.”

“You’re a busy man; I can’t possibly keep you.”

Cordelia didn’t think much of the encounter. Her mind was solely focused on reaching Leonard without being late.

That day, however, the world seemed unusually kind to her.

When she dropped several sheets of parchment in her haste, a nearby knight—surprisingly, not a servant but a full-fledged knight—picked them up with a remarkably warm smile,

“Here you are, Countess. You shine as brilliantly as ever today.”

Cordelia accepted the papers from him with great reluctance.

That wasn’t all. When she finally arrived at Leonard’s room, a maid greeted her with unusual kindness,

“Mistress, shall I prepare some refreshments for you?”

“Huh? No, it’s fine.”

“Then please call me anytime you need anything.”

Cordelia had entered and left this room dozens of times, but never had the maid shown such warmth before.

‘What’s going on? Why’s everyone acting so strange all of a sudden?’

By now, Cordelia sensed something was off. Their unexplained kindness didn’t make her happy—it only filled her with suspicion.

The moment Leonard saw her, he scowled and snapped,

“Do you even know what time it is? What took you so long? My neck’s getting stiff waiting!”

“Master… you see, people have been… Never mind. It’s nothing.”

Cordelia bit back what she’d almost said, stumbling over her words. After all, she couldn’t very well complain that people being nice was suspicious.

He lectured her at length, but thankfully, once Cordelia handed in her homework, he began the lesson.

“I won’t get angry—just tell me honestly.”

“Tell you what?”

But Leonard was already thoroughly annoyed. Instead of pointing it out, Cordelia stayed quiet.

“How can you be this slow-witted? Is it congenital? Or did you fall from a tree as a child and suffer a serious head injury…?”

“Th-that’s too much! For your information, my childhood tutor praised me as the smartest among all his students.”

“What did he praise you for? Knowing how to breathe? Or walking properly?”

“…”

Better not say another word.

Every day, Cordelia was reminded just how impossibly high this man’s standards were.

No matter how hard she studied—reciting everything learned the day before until she knew it by heart—he never praised her. It was treated as the bare minimum.

Whenever she failed to grasp something after one explanation and asked him to repeat it, he’d look at her as if she were some strange creature from another world.

His eyes seemed to scream, “How can you not understand this?”

Baron, arriving late, awkwardly smiled and came to Cordelia’s defense.

“But she’s already learned how to shape her magical energy, hasn’t she? That’s actually quite impressive at this stage.”

“So what? She still can’t do the calculations needed to move to the next step.”

“That will come with time and practice.”

She felt so grateful to the baron for his support she nearly wanted to bow to him.

Though her master constantly mocked her as an idiot, Cordelia wasn’t discouraged—in fact, her determination burned even hotter.

‘Just you wait. One day, I’ll make you proud to call me your student.’

As she gritted her teeth with this silent vow, a maid arrived carrying a letter on a silver tray. Cordelia’s face hardened instantly upon seeing the name on the envelope.

Leonard asked casually,

“What is it? Who sent it?”

“It’s… nothing.”

She forced a clumsy smile and stuffed the letter into her pocket.

Leonard noticed the Vasquez family crest stamped on the envelope but didn’t press further. He knew Cordelia viewed her family as a shameful secret she wanted to hide.

The lesson finally ended after what felt like ages.

Cordelia had spent five straight hours transcribing formulas, memorizing over a hundred magical terms, and was assigned two scholarly papers to analyze as homework.

With hollow eyes, she muttered,

“When exactly am I supposed to sleep?”

“Sleep is something you do when you’re dead.”

“…”

Too exhausted to argue, Cordelia dragged herself out of Leonard’s room.

Once the door closed completely, the baron spoke.

“I’m astonished.”

“At what?”

“At Lady Cordelia. Did you already know her potential when you took her as your student?”

“If I’d known, I would’ve checked whether her head was made of stone or flesh before accepting her as my disciple.”

Leonard replied gruffly, but the baron’s eyes sparkled with excitement.

“My lord, she shaped her magical energy after only ten days of study! Even the most renowned talents in the Mage Association take months or even years to achieve that.”

“It took me two days.”

“…It’s unfair to compare ordinary people with you, my lord. At this rate, she might really manage a star by age twenty-five.”

“Hmph. She’s still got a long way to go—she can’t even do basic mental arithmetic.”

“Calculation improves with practice. If she’d mastered that too in just ten days, I’d start doubting whether Lady Cordelia is even human.”

The baron gave a slight shiver.

At first, he’d thought Leonard had impulsively accepted Cordelia as his student, but after witnessing her astonishing talent, he couldn’t help but be amazed.

“Perhaps another great archmage is about to emerge.”

“Don’t jump to conclusions. What about the council?”

“As expected, Elfenbaum is fiercely opposing it. He says a funeral without a body cannot be recognized.”

“How heartwarmingly grateful I am.”

Despite his sarcastic tone, he meant it sincerely.

The council consisted of over twenty nobles. Only half needed to agree for the title inheritance to be approved.

Though nobles led by Elfenbaum still refused to acknowledge Maximilian’s succession, the Atirai leadership couldn’t remain vacant indefinitely.

“They’ll hold out at most three months.”

“Yes.”

The baron nodded gravely.

That meant Leonard had to reclaim his original body and depose Maximilian within three months.

Leonard clenched his fist. Time was running out.

Chapter 150 Chapter 149

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.
