Ji An, who had been loitering around after the three people vanished into the study, stepped into a walk-in closet about the size of a bedroom.

“Wow.”

Ji An’s jaw dropped.

The space was so lavish it felt as though entire luxury department store sections had been transported inside—exactly the kind of dream closet anyone might imagine.

Built-in wardrobes lined with glittering gold trim and bright, high-lumen lighting made it feel like a world entirely separate from the gloomy, shadow-filled house that followed Kang Hyun.

Neatly stacked boxes and shopping bags piled in one corner looked freshly delivered, even at a glance.

“Everything in this house has lost its owner.”

Since no one would ever touch them again, the room was practically abandoned.

“Ji An, where are you?”

“Oh, yes!”

“Come have cake with us. Do you happen to like cheesecake?”

“You’d eat it if you could get your hands on some.”

Yeon Ju, who had come out to the living room ahead of Seok Won and Kang Hyun, placed the cake on the glass table in front of the sofa instead of the messy dining table.

She put on indoor slippers and headed into the chaotic kitchen, pulling out dessert plates and forks while clicking her tongue.

“Hey! I told you to stop eating seaweed soup already!”

Then she shouted sharply toward the tightly shut study door.

“Oh dear, I’m sorry. I’ve got a bit of a temper…”

“The managing director must really like seaweed soup—and galbitang and japchae too.”

“Like it? It’s Seo Yoon’s birthday meal. The accident happened at dawn that day. Kang Hyun was so busy back then—he said he’d completely forgotten her birthday. He’s been like this for four whole years because he couldn’t give her even that one meal.”

“F-four years? You mean he’s been eating that for four years?”

Ji An, startled nearly into dropping the plate Yeon Ju handed her, let out a sigh of relief.

“The housekeeper prepares it—not every day, but often enough that even we feel queasy just glancing in sometimes. He’s just a madman. He should’ve treated her well while she was still here.”

The harsh criticism was only words. Her shadowed expression and voice clearly showed hurt.

“Aren’t the two of you coming out?”

“They’re still talking. They haven’t caught the person responsible for the accident yet.”

“…I see.”

“I’m sorry, Ji An. It feels like I’ve made a terribly selfish choice—sending you here without any explanation, just because Seo Yoon left like that and Kang Hyun hasn’t been himself since.”

Yeon Ju offered a quiet apology, unable to look Ji An directly in the eyes, and distractedly poked at the innocent cake.

If she stared too long at Ji An—whose face resembled Seo Yoon’s so closely it felt as if she’d returned from the dead—tears might suddenly spill over.

“The managing director thinks I might be her twin. He wants to do a DNA test.”

“You don’t have to do anything you’re uncomfortable with—neither working here nor the DNA test.”

“No, I’ll keep working. Honestly, it’s hard to find conditions this good. And I’ll consider the DNA test positively too. I understand the managing director’s situation, but I’m confused myself and need some time. Is that alright?”

Since she’d decided to stay by Kang Hyun’s side, she couldn’t outright refuse. Especially after even hearing him say he’d kneel and beg.

“Of course. You can take all the time you need, Ji An.”

“Do you believe it too, Yeon Ju?”

“Huh? Oh… Honestly? Yes. I’m sorry.”

“It’s alright—you two really do look that much alike. But why did the managing director act that way earlier?”

“Seo Yoon used to do it all the time—tap her finger exactly five times, then draw a star. Right? Kang Hyun says he must’ve imagined it.”

“Me? I’m not sure.”

Yeon Ju nodded knowingly. It was a habit Ji An herself wasn’t aware of because no one had ever told her.

“Hurry up and eat. I’ve been talking too much.”

Yeon Ju, with slightly flustered hands, placed another slice of cake onto Ji An’s plate.

Now Ji An understood why her friend Seon Kyung always gushed so excitedly about Yeon Ju.

“Director Do! Have some cake.”

As soon as the study door opened, Yeon Ju quickly raised her hand.

Kang Hyun, locking eyes with Ji An—who was chewing a mouthful of cake—lowered his eyelids.

“I’m sorry about earlier.”

Kang Hyun’s voice rumbled low—and then—

“Pwaaaaah!”

“…”

Yeon Ju spat out her orange juice.

“He must be insane. Seriously.”

“Yes, he seems insane.”

Seok Won, incapable of lying, scolded the distracted Yeon Ju.

Even as Seok Won found wet wipes to clean the table and her clothes, Yeon Ju kept muttering for a while, convinced he was about to drop dead any second.

“Tae Kang Hyun, saying thank you? If Seo Yoon in heaven knew, she’d be dancing for joy. Or maybe crying her eyes out from feeling left out.”

“Move over. The sofa’s soaked too.”

Overpowered by Seok Won, Yeon Ju slid down under the sofa.

Watching the three of them together—seemingly cheerful in their own way—made a faint smile bloom on Ji An’s lips.

“I’ll go in first.”

Kang Hyun turned toward the bedroom. Seeing Ji An—whose one eye crinkled more when she smiled, just like Seo Yoon’s—was becoming a bit too much to bear.

Ji An stood at the bus stop, ready for work.

She had a driver’s license and knew how to drive, but lacking the courage to handle a car herself, she preferred taking the bus.

“Oh? Seo Ji An!”

A man in a dark suit approached Ji An, who was checking the dwindling wait time and pacing anxiously.

“Who are you?”

“Don’t you remember me? We worked together for about two years when you were a contract secretary. It’s been a while.”

The man grinned casually and extended his hand toward Ji An.

“I’m sorry, I don’t really recall…”

“No way. I’m Choi Do Young. We were close, Ji An.”

“I don’t really know… Sorry.”

“Think harder—we really were close.”

Staring in confusion at a man she’d never seen in her four years of memories, Ji An managed to escape onto a conveniently arriving bus.

Aside from her parents and close friends, he was the first person who claimed to recognize her past self.

“Choi Do Young… Who’s Choi Do Young?”

Seated in an empty spot, Ji An clutched her bag tightly and avoided the gaze of the man standing still outside the window.

She tried repeating his name and face to jog her memory, but only a slight headache came—no scattered puzzle pieces moved.

Once the bus vanished completely, the man who’d introduced himself as Choi Do Young got into the passenger seat of a sedan parked nearby.

“She’s the same—still hasn’t gotten her memory back.”

“Call him. He’s anxious to the point of dying.”

“Why don’t you call him yourself? That guy’s getting ruder by the day. Just because he’s rich doesn’t mean he can treat people like dogs.”

“If all you do is sniff around and follow orders, how are you any different from a dog?”

“Anyway.”

Eventually, the man in the driver’s seat picked up his phone.

Ji An arrived at work with a stiff, hardened expression after encountering the stranger.

Not remembering a single day of her life so far was no different from being left alone in pitch-black darkness.

Now, with the sudden appearance of a supposed twin and this uneasy situation dragging on, even someone naturally optimistic like her couldn’t help but feel confused.

And yet—

The moment she saw Tae Kang Hyun head-on, the storm clouds in her mind instantly cleared.

Why’s he acting like that again?

“You’re here?”

“Yes.”

“I heard you started drinking at dawn again. Ugh, seriously. Is that even how a person lives?”

In Kang Hyun’s hand, slumped on the sofa, swirled whiskey without a single ice cube. The transparent bottle was nearly empty, while the fruit plate—clearly prepared by Madam Ko—was densely filled.

Ji An, left behind by Madam Ko who’d said she’d prepare breakfast and head out, rolled her eyes helplessly and stood directly in front of Kang Hyun.

“Managing director, it’s morning.”

“I know. Was worried you might’ve gone blind or something.”

His eyelids, heavy with fatigue from sleepless nights, drooped low. He didn’t want to face her pale, clearly worried expression.

“Since seeing your face proves I’m not completely fine, I guess I must still be human.”

“My dad likes drinking too, but even he doesn’t touch hard liquor this early in the morning. Please don’t hurt your stomach—just eat something.”

Unfazed even by his deep shadows, Ji An snatched the glass from his hand.

“Oppa, let’s have breakfast.”

Even the voice was identical.

Ji An watched quietly as Kang Hyun obediently walked toward the dining table, tilting her head slightly.

“Is he drunk?”

Given the size of the liquor bottle, it’d be stranger if he weren’t.

Sitting naturally across from him, Ji An let out a quiet sigh of relief. The menu wasn’t drastically different, but today at least, freshly cooked rice and steaming soup were served.

Watching him eat a normal meal somehow brought unexpected peace to her heart.

“Managing director.”

“Yes.”

“Do you have anything for me to do?”

“If you need work instructions, contact Director Do. You may report to the managing director’s office if you wish.”

“…What would a secretary do in the managing director’s office if the managing director isn’t there?”

“Director Do is acting in my place, so there’ll be plenty for you to handle.”

Kang Hyun set down his spoon, having barely finished half the bowl of rice Madam Ko had generously filled.

“And you don’t have to stay here just to keep me company.”

“Huh?”

“I can’t get any food down.”

His already poor appetite had now completely vanished.

He’d firmly believed that whether she was a twin or not, anyone who wasn’t Seo Yoon would leave him utterly unmoved.

Yet seeing Seo Yoon’s face on someone who wasn’t Seo Yoon was far more horrifying than he’d imagined.

“I’m here.”

Se Jun crossed the threshold of the chairman’s office, waving like he was greeting a dear friend.

Tae Seok Gyu, seated behind the spacious executive desk reviewing key matters, frowned slightly.

“What brings you all the way here?”

“You’re hardly in a position to be this relaxed. Han Seo Yoon met Tae Kang Hyun—her memory could return anytime now, and no one would be surprised.”

“Watch your words, anywhere, anytime. Han Seo Yoon is dead.”

Tae Seok Gyu clicked his fountain pen shut, rotated his stiff shoulders, and sat on the sofa opposite Se Jun.

With Tae Seok Joong and Tae Kang Hyun gone, Tae Seok Gyu had seized the chairman position at Seo Won Group.

“Do you think it’ll be alright? They’ll surely run a DNA test the moment they see each other’s identical faces.”

“Identical twins are hard to distinguish even with DNA testing.”

“If the two of them interact, of course the accident will come up in conversation. The moment Tae Kang Hyun grows suspicious, it’s over.”

“We both knew something like this would happen eventually. Back then, this was the best option. I saw Seo Yoon dead with my own eyes—he won’t suspect easily.”

It would’ve been better if Tae Kang Hyun and Seo Ji An never crossed paths in their lives.

“But that won’t last long. Let’s discuss what to do next. Are we really going to wait until her memory returns? Chairman, let’s just handle this cleanly.”

Four years of peace were finally beginning to crumble.

It was something they could’ve prevented in advance.

Perhaps because he’d inherited his employer’s foolishness, the contractors Koo Se Jun hired had done sloppy work.

He’d also let his guard down, trusting that the long silence meant safety.

Tae Seok Gyu pressed his temples and let out a sigh.

“Assess the situation. If it seems safe, act on your own.”

It was a choice made out of necessity.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
