Wishing for Salvation (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
From the moment she stepped into the apartment elevator, Ji An’s legs had been trembling uncontrollably. The instant she opened the front door, she called out for Jeong Hye.
“Mom! Am I a twin?”
“Oh my! What on earth are you talking about all of a sudden?”
“Did I suddenly die while I was asleep…? Is that why you couldn’t tell me, because you were worried I’d be shocked?”
“Sweetheart, you’ve been watching too many dramas.”
Having received Ji An’s message that she was on her way home, Jeong Hye, who had been preparing dinner, chuckled as she sliced tofu to add to the soybean paste stew.
“I saw someone who looks exactly like me. Remember that documentary we watched together last time? She looked just like those identical twins in it. Can something like that even happen?”
“Well, how similar are you really?”
“Even this mole here is in the exact same spot. I still feel like I just saw a ghost.”
Ji An leaned her limp body against the refrigerator. It felt as though Tai Kang Hyun’s house had completely drained her energy.
“Leave behind a few strands of hair.”
“Huh?”
“We need a DNA test—to confirm whether or not you’re related to Seo Yoon.”
“What would change even if we were related?”
“I’d like to visit and greet her occasionally. I told you—Yoon found Seo Ji An.”
“I’ll ask my parents first. That seems like the proper thing to do.”
Was it even okay to ask something like this?
Watching Jeong Hye’s back as she continued chopping rhythmically, the words stuck stubbornly in Ji An’s throat.
“Mom… listen without taking it to heart, okay?”
“What is it?”
“I really am your biological daughter, right?”
Thud. Thud. The knife stopped mid-chop on the cutting board.
Jeong Hye bit her lip slightly, then turned around with an effortless smile.
“What, were you worried I’d picked you up from under a bridge?”
“Were you?”
“No, I was in labor for over twelve hours. You just loved being in my belly so much.”
“Me? Seriously?”
“Stop saying silly things and go wash up quickly. We’ll eat dinner together once your dad gets home.”
“Okay.”
Right—she must just look similar.
Feeling considerably lighter, Ji An changed her clothes and flopped down onto her bed, blinking slowly.
Tai Kang Hyun. Tai Kang Hyun.
Even though they’d spent only a few hours together, his name and face refused to leave her mind.
Her swirling thoughts wouldn’t settle—
Not while showering, eating, or brushing her teeth.
Not even while briefly sitting in front of her laptop.
Even after turning off the lights and lying down, Tai Kang Hyun’s dark eyes kept reappearing.
And for the first time in four years, she had a dream.
Whenever you go out, remember to inform me. If you plan to meet someone privately, leave their name and contact details in advance.
After listing a few instructions while seated with his back turned to Seo Yoon, Kang Hyun soon rose to his feet.
Left alone amidst his unusually heavy lingering scent, Seo Yoon buried her sinking, despondent face into her pillow.
The emptiness she felt in this bedroom—containing nothing but a bed—was utterly indescribable.
Did she really have to explain even this pitiful emotion?
I’m lonely.
Now, even when we’re together, I feel lonely.
He’d never understand these words even if she told him. That’s just who he was.
A life with no family, no friends—only Tai Kang Hyun—was unbearably lonely.
She waited for him, waited and waited some more.
A lonely child who’d grown up on Tai Kang Hyun’s money, a mere rest stop where he’d briefly drop by, owning nothing but him.
That was Han Seo Yoon.
Trending
“Oppa.”
Without bothering to turn and look at Seo Yoon, who always watched him from the same spot, Kang Hyun gave a slight nod and continued preparing to leave.
With the official succession battle now underway, alongside his engagement preparations and numerous events, Kang Hyun had become so busy that for months, these brief encounters were all they ever had.
“Can’t you stay and eat with me? I don’t want to eat alone…”
“Later.”
“When later?”
“Soon.”
His cold, indifferent reply—utterly devoid of affection or concern—made Seo Yoon’s naturally sharp eyes droop sadly.
She knew. She knew very well he wasn’t like other people.
Yet as her solitary hours grew longer, her willingness to understand him kept shrinking.
Around that time, she’d started feeling deeply exhausted.
“I’d like to go on a trip, even just for a while.”
“Wait—I’ll find some time.”
“I know you’re busy. I can go alone.”
“No, you can’t go alone. Just wait.”
A short sigh slipped out.
“How much longer do I have to wait?”—the words choked her throat, but she forced them down.
“Also, it’s vacation now. Maybe I should get a part-time job. You already cover my tuition and living expenses, so at least my pocket money…”
Before she could even finish, Kang Hyun’s wallet snapped open.
He grabbed a thick wad of bills and tossed them carelessly onto the nightstand.
She couldn’t even count the endless zeroes printed on the crisp white check.
Kang Hyun probably thought he was simply giving her allowance—
—but receiving money in this situation made her feel like nothing more than another woman kept around for convenience.
Her eyes stung hotly, tears threatening to spill over. Seo Yoon bit her lip hard and avoided Kang Hyun’s gaze.
“Is your card inconvenient to use? Buy anything you need—it’s fine.”
Would that foolish Tai Kang Hyun ever understand?
Would that greedy Tai Kang Hyun—who wanted everything: wealth, honor, power, and even her, his affection object—ever realize
that every careless word he uttered had already pierced her like a sharp blade dozens of times?
“I’ll make time within this month.”
“Really? Can you promise that?”
“Yes.”
Did he even know that hundreds of broken promises had already left her utterly crushed?
Did he know that day by day, she’d lost all sense of her own worth—enough to finally choose parting from Tai Kang Hyun, once her entire world?
“Whoaah!”
Kang Hyun, who’d been gazing blankly into space, rose abruptly at the sudden, loud scream.
The moment he opened his bedroom door, he saw Ji An sprawled flat on her stomach in the hallway, just beginning to push herself up onto her knees.
“G-good morning, Director! Please don’t worry about me—I’m not hurt at all!”
Having shuffled in wearing slippers, Ji An had tripped when the front folded over, causing her to tumble headfirst. She laughed awkwardly, tapping her sore elbow.
Because she’d been thinking of Tai Kang Hyun right until she fell asleep, his face had even appeared in her dream.
Though the rather long dream had blurred the moment she opened her eyes, one final line remained crystal clear, echoing in her ears:
“How could I ever let you go?”
She’d assumed it was because she’d seen him—the man still clinging to his lover who’d died four years ago.
But her mind had grown so foggy trying to shake off that lingering voice that she’d ended up tripping foolishly.
“You’re eating, right? The housekeeper probably left breakfast—so today I’ll warm it up…”
Ji An quickly trailed after Kang Hyun, who strode past as if ignoring her, only to fall momentarily silent upon seeing the dining table—unchanged from yesterday.
Sitting again across from Kang Hyun, she felt as if she’d been pulled back to that exact moment yesterday.
“I love seaweed soup too—my mom’s seaweed soup, that is. She’s really good at cooking.”
“What about the DNA test?”
“We’re not twins. I’m my mom’s biological daughter—she was in labor for over twelve hours to give birth to me.”
Ji An shook her head awkwardly.

She’d acted composed in front of her parents, but inside, she felt just as unsettled as when she’d first woken up with no memories—completely blank.
She kept insisting it was just a coincidence, yet doubts kept swelling deep in her chest—
because every single person she met would unanimously declare they looked like twins.
Though doppelgängers like in movies surely didn’t exist, she feared that confirming they truly were twins would unravel the past four years she’d painstakingly built, layer by layer.
Even if they really were twins, she didn’t want to upend her present life for a blood relative she’d never known.
“Am I asking too much?”
“You’re absolutely certain you’re twins?”
“It couldn’t possibly be otherwise.”
“If that’s true, it means my parents adopted me.”
“Maybe your biological parents only raised one of you.”
“No. My parents aren’t the kind who’d abandon a child.”
“They must be wonderful people, then.”
“Of course. They visited me every single day at the hospital… Anyway, they really love me—they only have me.”
Thinking of her parents, who worried about her morning and night, Ji An let out a deep sigh.
If her mother was lying, there must be a good reason—but agreeing to the DNA test felt like betraying them. Her chest tightened as if she’d swallowed an entire dry loaf of bread in one gulp.
“Seo Yoon was brought from an orphanage by my father—to ‘treat’ someone like me who couldn’t function as a proper human being. He isolated me so I’d know only him, see only him, love only him. Yet in the end, he never truly loved me.”
The spoon stirred meaninglessly, clinking against the bowl.
It was the same voice she’d heard in her dream—
flat, yet painfully hollow.
“Yoon has never once used the words ‘mom’ or ‘dad.’”
Kang Hyun murmured, his gaze fixed downward, unable to look Ji An in the eye.
“She spent her whole life with a stranger until she died.”
Though he’d tried investigating her family at Seo Yoon’s request, finding blood relatives abandoned to different orphanages right after birth was no easy task.
And yet they’d been this close—close enough to meet by sheer chance.
All the things he couldn’t give Seo Yoon now poured over him daily like a violent downpour.
“But…”
“I’ll compensate you sufficiently financially. Please don’t take it the wrong way—I simply struggle to appeal emotionally like ordinary people do.”
We’ve already done more than enough!
Ji An blinked rapidly, trying to clear her blurry vision.
The thought that Seo Yoon had never once used the common words “mom” and “dad” filled her eyes instantly with tears.
“I think I could even kneel and beg if I had to.”
“W-what did you say?”
“If you refuse until the very end, that’s exactly what I’ll do.”
I really walked into the wrong place.
Watching Kang Hyun nonchalantly take another bite after speaking, Ji An felt a twinge of resentment toward her friend Seon Kyung.
If Jang Yeon Ju hadn’t seen her at that café, none of this would’ve happened.
Ji An, whose emotions ran so deep she’d cry buckets while watching a drama, knew she’d be utterly helpless if someone actually knelt and begged her.
What should I do? What can I possibly do?
Tap tap. Ji An’s slender fingers tapped the island countertop.
At the familiar sound, those pitch-black eyes—fixed downward until now—shifted instinctively.
Tap tap tap. Three more taps followed in quick succession.
Having now marked five dots, Ji An began connecting them.
It was a habit she unconsciously fell into when deep in thought.
The moment her index finger completed drawing a star, Kang Hyun’s pupils—previously flickering in confusion—suddenly widened drastically.
His expression, once utterly indifferent, twisted grotesquely as he rose from the table like a man possessed.
Crash! Clang! Bowls slipped from his trembling hands, shattering loudly across the floor.
“What are you doing?”
“What are you doing, Director! Are you alright?”
Frozen in shock, Ji An blinked a few times before stepping directly onto the broken shards to grab Kang Hyun as he approached.
His narrow-set eyes, now inches away, shimmered desperately—his concealed agony laid bare with startling clarity.

“What is it? Tell me!”
“Why are you suddenly like this? Come this way first—there’s glass all over the floor!”
“Do you know Seo Yoon?”
His violently trembling hands seized Ji An’s shoulders, shaking her hard.
In this moment, watching him undergo such a complete transformation, she truly wondered if he’d gone insane.
“How would I know her!”
“Director!”
Do Seok Won rushed over and pulled the frenzied Kang Hyun away from Ji An.
“What’s gotten into you! Ji An, are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine—but I think the Director’s hurt.”
“I’m so sorry—I’ll apologize on his behalf.”
Yeon Ju, arriving shortly after, gently comforted the startled Ji An.
Ji An pressed firmly against her chest, where her heart was pounding as if about to burst.
Though she couldn’t understand what she’d done wrong, his pain had transferred to her so vividly that her throat burned as if she herself had lost someone she loved dearly.
She felt like she might burst into tears at the slightest touch.
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
