Who Regressed the Timekeeper? (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 14
“Ethan? Why are you here…?”
Vernon asked, looking troubled, while Noah muttered to himself like he was talking alone.
“That kid…”
Amy recognized him too. He was the boy they’d met when leaving the baron’s manor. Ethan spoke with a determined expression.
“I’ve always been heartbroken that my uncle, who’s so exceptionally skilled, gave up his dreams to become a farmer.”
Surprisingly, the boy was Vernon’s nephew. Vernon’s face twisted in discomfort.
“It’s not because of you…”
“You said it was because of your injury, but I know everything. There won’t be another chance like this. Please go, Uncle. I’m begging you.”
As Ethan pleaded, Jack and Bradley exchanged silent glances. Dwayne clenched his fist tightly, cheering Ethan on. But then…
“I can’t go.”
Vernon bluntly cut off his nephew’s earnest wish. Dwayne openly showed his disappointment.
“Wow, that stubbornness is still going strong…!”
With a loud thwack, Jack’s fist struck his head again. Once more, he rubbed the back of his head as if nothing had happened, like a fly had just landed on him.
“…”
Silence fell among them. Amy was taken aback by Vernon’s unexpected firmness.
‘Is this really something worth refusing so absolutely?’
To anyone’s eyes, it was an excellent opportunity—something a mere farmer could never hope to regain even if resurrected from the dead. Suddenly, it dawned on her. Vernon must have some other reason.
“In any case, I’ve made my feelings clear. Your Highness, the Second Prince, may your journey be safe.”
Vernon bowed politely, then abruptly turned and walked away. Dwayne, Jack, and Bradley sighed and huddled together, whispering among themselves.
Amy quietly approached Ethan, who stood alone in a corner.
“So you’re Captain Vernon’s nephew?”
“Ah, yes…”
Ethan nodded meekly. Then he looked up at Amy with clear eyes and asked distinctly, syllable by syllable,
“My uncle used to be Captain of the Imperial Palace Guard. If he goes to the Grand Duchy, will he receive proper treatment?”
“…”
One of Amy’s eyebrows arched upward. Well, well. Beneath those gentle, calf-like eyes lurked a clever raccoon. Still, she didn’t dislike someone who knew their own worth and asked for it confidently.
“You’ll be treated according to your ability. His Grace the Grand Duke isn’t stingy with talent.”
“Yes…”
Ethan let out a sigh of relief. Just then, Noah sidled up and said,
“You should come with us too.”
“…Me?”
Ethan pointed at himself in surprise. Noah stared at him with wide eyes.
“If Vernon’s refusing to go because of you, then just come along.”
“Ah…”
Ethan’s words trailed off. At that moment, Noah grabbed his hand and examined it closely.
“These are hands that have trained.”
“!”
Ethan’s face instantly flushed red. He yanked his hand back, hiding it behind his back, and stammered,
“D-Dwayne sometimes watches over me…”
Noah nodded calmly.
“Just as I thought—those three aren’t ordinary farmers.”
Amy asked in surprise,
“How did you know that, Your Highness?”
“When they greeted me earlier, they snapped their heels together sharply. That’s how palace guards salute.”
“Oh…”
No wonder their movements were so precise. They must have been knights who followed Captain Vernon into retirement. Amy’s enthusiasm flared anew.
“Then we absolutely must take them with us.”
Noah glanced at her sideways.
“But didn’t you say it’s Vernon’s choice whether to go or not?”
“Oh, come on, Your Highness. That’s just talk. If he keeps being stubborn, I won’t hesitate to kidnap him.”
Trending
Amy waved her hand cheerfully, making Ethan look utterly horrified. Was this really something to say right in front of the nephew of the would-be kidnapping victim? But even more shocking words followed.
“If Amy thinks that’s what we should do, then so be it.”
“Huh?”
Ethan gasped in shock, but his master remained perfectly calm, as if there were nothing wrong at all. Seeing Ethan dumbfounded, mouth agape, Amy spoke in a low, persuasive tone.
“Try convincing your uncle. It’s not every day an opportunity like this comes along.”
“Ah…”
“There’ll be no more need for farm work once you reach the Grand Duchy. You’ll lead the palace guard.”
Noah added quietly from beside him,
“And if you wish, I’ll recommend you as a squire to a northern noble.”
A squire was a boy who served a full knight directly before becoming a knight himself. Usually, only children from noble families became squires to lords or high lords, so this was an extraordinary chance for a commoner.
“A squire? Me?”
Ethan’s eyes suddenly sparkled. Amy pursed her lips in an “Oh!” and looked at Noah with an admiring glance. When had he figured all this out?
“…Um, I think I might have a way.”
Ethan, who had been thinking intensely, hesitantly spoke up. Seeing the hopeful expressions on Amy and Noah’s faces, he swallowed hard and blurted out resolutely,
“C-Could you possibly take me on as your squire, Your Highness?”
“!”
Noah raised an eyebrow in surprise. Amy quickly pressed him.
“You said you might have a way—is that really true?”
“Yes, maybe.”
“‘Maybe’? It won’t do if you’re not certain.”
Amy spoke firmly. Ethan paused as if pondering, then nodded.
“I’ll make it work, no matter what.”
“…Then.”
Amy gave Noah a meaningful look. Noah looked bewildered, as if asking, “Why?” She glared at him again—this silent scolding clearly meant, “What are you waiting for? Give your permission already!” Reluctantly, Noah said,
“I’m not a formally knighted knight yet… but fine, I suppose.”
“!”
Ethan’s face lit up. He snorted and bowed repeatedly.
“Thank you! Thank you so much! I’ll work hard!”
“So, what’s your plan?”
Amy folded her arms and looked up at the sky. The sun was already high overhead. According to her schedule, they absolutely had to leave today with Captain Vernon, so time was running short.
“Oh, just a moment.”
Ethan wandered toward a narrow path leading into the hills, then suddenly brightened as if he’d spotted something. He waved and started running toward it. Curious, Amy looked that way just as Ethan called out,
“Mrs. Weaver!”
What? Amy’s eyes widened. Who did he say?
Mrs. Weaver and Ethan stood by the roadside, chatting warmly. Calm tones and cheerful voices drifted over intermittently. Amy narrowed her eyes, studying Mrs. Weaver carefully.
‘She’s about the same age as Captain Vernon.’
The lady had neatly pinned up her ash-blond hair and wore simple but tidy clothes. From the reed basket hanging on her wrist, she took out something cookie-like and offered it to Ethan. Ethan beamed and accepted it gratefully.
‘Tall, upright posture, unhurried demeanor.’
She seemed quite impressive. But after her hardships in her previous life, Amy had resolved to be far more discerning in judging people, so she tried not to jump to conclusions—yet…
Just then, the trio of knights crept slowly toward Mrs. Weaver. She gave a slight nod as they greeted her. Dwayne, with a smooth face, started chattering and casually reached into her basket.
“Dwayne!”
But before Jack could even say anything, Mrs. Weaver sharply swatted Dwayne’s hand away. *Slap!*
“If you do that once more, I’ll tell Vernon.”
She added this dry threat as an extra. Dwayne pouted childishly, and Jack, Bradley, and Ethan all stared at him as if he were a hopeless fool.
Amy sank into deep thought.
‘She speaks perfect standard language, not the local dialect. She might be more accomplished than she appears.’
A household that required its servants to speak standard language was almost certainly a distinguished noble family. Moreover, Amy particularly liked her straightforward gaze. She’d reportedly refused to participate in illegal acts, even under threat from her former employer. A faint smile tugged at Amy’s lips.
‘Just as Viola described.’
Finally, Amy made up her mind. Mrs. Weaver was the perfect candidate for head maid at the Grand Ducal Palace.
‘But… if he’s trying to persuade Captain Vernon, why is he chatting with Mrs. Weaver?’

Amy’s eyes narrowed. Ethan leaned close to Mrs. Weaver’s ear, whispering earnestly. Nearby, Dwayne kept circling, eyeing her basket hungrily. Familiar with his antics, Ethan popped his own cookie into Dwayne’s mouth, making him grin happily as he chewed.
‘Huh?’
Amy noticed Jack and Bradley watching Ethan and Mrs. Weaver with eager expressions. They clearly wanted Captain Vernon to go north just as much as she did…
‘Could Mrs. Weaver have a way?’
Their conversation ended quickly. Mrs. Weaver bowed to the knights and Ethan, then disappeared back down the narrow path.
Amy stroked her chin, watching her straight-backed figure recede. Though she likely knew Noah was nobility, if not the Grand Duke himself, her lack of any attempt to ingratiate herself was impressive.
Ethan ran back to them, his face bright, and said,
“She’s our neighbor, Mrs. Weaver.”
“I see.”
Though Amy already knew her identity, she played along as if unaware. Ethan gazed wistfully in the direction she’d vanished and continued,
“Uncle doesn’t want to leave this place—not because of me, but because of Mrs. Weaver.”

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”
Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.
Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”
With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.
Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?
He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
