“I told you to stop worrying about it. Besides, Han Ga Eul had another reason for peeking at my computer. She said she saw me investing in stocks and wanted to follow suit.”
“Now you’re even making excuses for her? I can’t just let it go. You’re not the type to overlook someone snooping around your computer. You’re the kind of person who never lets even a penny slip through your fingers, let alone allows yourself to be taken advantage of for free. Get a grip. If you’re not about to give up on avenging your father, stay focused on your objective.”
“The information about the flaw in TS Tech’s encryption technology—is it confirmed?”
As if heeding Se Hyun’s advice to stay goal-oriented, Dae Woon shifted the topic—signaling he no longer wished to discuss Han Ga Eul. Se Hyun thus answered Dae Woon’s question first.
“Of course. I’ve personally verified it with the mathematician currently writing a paper on that encryption flaw. He’s undergoing several validation procedures, and the paper is expected to be published in as soon as six months. There are even rumors that TS Tech has obtained this information and is preparing countermeasures—including potential legal action.”
Dae Woon nodded, his gaze fixed straight ahead. Seizing the pause, Se Hyun quickly asked,
“So, is the Han Ga Eul issue part of your private life? In other words, are you developing personal feelings for her? Is that it?”
Se Hyun refused to back down easily. He couldn’t just stand by and watch his only friend reach for forbidden fruit—he knew how this would inevitably end.
“Doesn’t your life feel complex enough already? Do you really need to tangle it further? Knowing full well you and Han Ga Eul are bound by bad karma, did you still go ahead and start something?”
“Don’t jump to conclusions. It hasn’t even started yet. There’s someone Han Ga Eul likes. That person apparently asked me to date her, wanting to get rid of the competition. Crazy bas…”
Dae Woon seemed to mutter something resembling a curse at the end, but he mumbled so quietly and indistinctly that Se Hyun couldn’t be sure.
“You call that ‘not started’? You crazy bastard, dumbass, pushover—‘not started’? At your age… just go die already, you idiot.”
Se Hyun instantly recognized Dae Woon’s vague reply as an evasion—Gi Dae Woong only ever dodged like this when he wanted to avoid a clear answer. Se Hyun felt a tightness rise in his chest.
The employees who’d accompanied Dae Woon back to Korea were right: Dae Woon was seriously smitten with Han Ga Eul—even if he refused to admit it. *I’m the only one believing otherwise. I’m the only one kept in the dark. Everyone else already knows.*
“Either use her or like her—but choose only one.”
That’s why Se Hyun spoke up. Knowing how tangled Dae Woon and Han Ga Eul’s relationship already was, he couldn’t stay silent—not even on this point.

You could perfectly well handle Shinhwa Group’s affairs from the U.S. Even now, plenty of firms on Wall Street would jump at the chance to recruit you. So why give up the opportunity to become a Wall Street legend—and waste your time here in Korea instead?”
“‘Wasting time’? Who do you think has been growing your assets all this while?”
Still staring straight ahead, Dae Woon replied. Curious about what Dae Woon was so intently focused on, Se Hyun followed his gaze—and realized Dae Woon was glaring at a traffic light that had just turned red.
“Compared to what you’d have earned had you stayed in the U.S., it’s barely worth mentioning. And why *this* neighborhood, of all places? Even if you’re trying to evade your grandfather and uncle’s surveillance, couldn’t you have picked somewhere better? It feels like a district where only people who think the 1980s mark the end of history still live. And that office too… ugh.”
“Director Seon found it for me.”
“You mean Seon Jae Ho—the one working for your grandfather? Did your grandfather order this?”
Dae Woon didn’t answer. When Se Hyun glanced over, he saw Dae Woon now staring even more intently—at something else.
“Why’s the traffic light lunging at you?”
Thinking Dae Woon was still glaring at the light, Se Hyun spoke—but he was wrong. Following Dae Woon’s gaze again, Se Hyun spotted a woman crossing the crosswalk.
Since the signal was nearing its end, she hurried her pace—but her gait looked oddly unsteady, as if her body wasn’t fully obeying her.
“Who is she?”
Se Hyun asked. It was too dark outside, and the woman wore a hat, making identification difficult.
“Someone who shouldn’t be standing there.”
Dae Woon gritted his teeth as he answered—apparently he’d already recognized her, relying solely on the car and streetlight illumination.
“Do you know her?”
“Han Ga Eul.”
“Han Ga Eul?”
A spark lit up Se Hyun’s eyes. How unbelievable—just as they’d mentioned her, Han Ga Eul herself appeared.
“She looks unwell. Could she be sick?”
As Se Hyun asked, he took in Ga Eul’s disheveled appearance—and remembered her pale, sun-deprived complexion. She certainly looked like a patient. Had Gi Dae Woong’s tastes changed? Was he now into sickly Cinderellas?
Se Hyun sank into deep contemplation. Wasn’t a bold, spy-like Cinderella insufficient? Did she now have to be physically ill, too? Why on earth had Dae Woon fallen for such a woman? Since it was his friend’s private life, should he protect it—or shock some sense back into his out-of-his-mind friend?
Han Ga Eul barely managed to finish crossing just before the signal changed—but Dae Woon’s eyes remained glued to her. Se Hyun had to tap Dae Woon’s arm to signal that the light had turned green.
A little farther on, Dae Woon pulled the car over.
“You get out. Go to the meeting alone.”
“What are you talking about? Everyone’s waiting for you. They won’t move until you do the final review and issue instructions.”
“Tell them to meet again tomorrow. Just get out.”
“You’re seriously impossible. I’m not getting out. I need to see what business of yours is so urgent that you’d abandon everyone who gathered here for you.”
Se Hyun held firm, eyes sharp and resolute. *Absolutely not getting out. I’ll follow you to the ends of the earth if I have to—just to see what unfolds.*
Dae Woon, seemingly giving up, restarted the car. He made a U-turn and drove in the direction Han Ga Eul had walked—steering straight through the hospital’s main entrance.
“Wait—how did you know Han Ga Eul came to the hospital?”
“She should’ve been inside the hospital—not standing on a crosswalk in the middle of the street.”
Dae Woon parked in the deserted nighttime lot and practically leapt out of the car. Without waiting for Se Hyun, he strode off rapidly.
Se Hyun sprinted to catch up. Though Dae Woon quickened his pace, Se Hyun stayed right on his heels. *I’ll see it with my own eyes—just who exactly is Han Ga Eul to Gi Dae Woong?*

Ga Eul tossed her bag into the wardrobe and hurriedly unbuttoned her blouse. She felt dizzy—likely from skipping dinner.
Since she hadn’t pre-registered, the hospital informed her she couldn’t receive a meal tonight. Her grandmother had brought food, but eating it would’ve made her miss her tutoring session.
So she skipped dinner and went straight to the lesson. With extra medical expenses piling up, she couldn’t afford to delay receiving her tutoring fee.
Thankfully, she’d managed to make it to the session without missing a day. Persuading her grandmother—initially insistent on staying overnight at the hospital—to return home had also worked out well, especially after Ga Eul stressed how crucial it was to treat Gyeo Wool to boiled pork today.
Everything had gone smoothly—even slipping out of and back into the hospital undetected. Letting out a sigh of relief, Ga Eul hung her blouse in the wardrobe and reached for her hospital gown.
Just then, the ward door burst open. Instinctively, Ga Eul raised the gown to cover herself, heart pounding—she thought a nurse had caught her sneaking back in.
When she turned her head, she saw the door slam shut almost as quickly as it had opened—but in that fleeting gap, her eyes met those of the person closing it: the President.
Ga Eul gasped, her face instantly flushing. Fortunately, the hospital gown concealed her bare torso—but had he seen anything *before* she covered up?
“What? What’s wrong?”
From beyond the closing door came the voice of an unfamiliar man.
“You didn’t even knock.”
Outside the ward, Dae Woon answered Se Hyun’s question—and slammed his head against the door with a *thud*.

Dae Woon remained facing away from Se Hyun. He didn’t want Se Hyun to see his face right now—the exposed, defenseless expression of a man laid utterly bare.
His heart hammered. Though others called him thick-skinned, he didn’t feel that way at all. Otherwise, why would his pulse race this wildly just from catching a glimpse of Han Ga Eul’s bare skin?
Dae Woon gritted his teeth. The image of Ga Eul’s startled, frozen face flashed before him—that of a rabbit caught off guard. The pale shoulder and collarbone not quite hidden by her hospital gown…
*You lunatic.* Dae Woon shook his head. *It wasn’t even her bare chest—just her collarbone. You’re not some pubescent boy.*
Still, before she’d covered herself, he’d glimpsed her breasts encased in a bra.

“Do you ever think before you act?!”
Aggression felt like his only lifeline—whether to hide his own humiliation, erase Ga Eul’s shame, or banish the lingering image of her pale chest from his vision.
Yet it was Dae Woon himself who ended up flustered. Ga Eul, having apparently regained her composure, now stared at him with undisguised disdain—as if to say, *What dog barks this late at night, under a moonless sky?*
“Ahem. So—you’ve made up your mind to thoroughly mess with Young Min’s father, haven’t you? You’re seeking revenge for when he hurled you to the ground, right?”
“Please speak more clearly.”
It was already past 11 p.m.
She’d only just decided to grab a late dinner—and now this disruption? Not enough that he’d barged in unannounced and glimpsed her bare skin—he had to come harassing her in the middle of the night too? Packed with irritation, Ga Eul glared fiercely at Gi Dae Woong.
“Han Ga Eul? I’m sorry for visiting so late. My friend spotted you crossing a crosswalk near the hospital and grew worried—so we followed you here.”
