Whispers of Autumn Wind (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 66
Dae Woon parked the car in the department store parking lot. Yet, Ga Eul’s Grandmother looked at Dae Woon—who had provided both the car and labor—with disapproval.
“The market or supermarket would have been much cheaper.”
Ga Eul’s Grandmother muttered this as she got out of the car. Ga Eul gave an apologetic, sheepish smile, as if embarrassed by her grandmother’s remark.
Dae Woon felt wronged. He’d naturally assumed that if they were buying things, they’d just go to the department store. After all, hadn’t it been the grandmother who failed to specify the destination clearly?
For someone like him, who’d only lived in Korea for about a year, she really should’ve said exactly which market or which supermarket to go to.
And Ga Eul was no better—chattering away the whole time until they were already near the department store, only to then ask why they’d come here. What was that about?
Dae Woon quickly got out of the car and hurried to follow the two women. If he didn’t move briskly enough, he feared he’d inevitably face scolding.
He’d planned to go for a drive with Ga Eul after sending off Jeong Se Hyun and Jung Mi Oh. Instead, their “drive” ended at a department store—and with her grandmother in tow, no less.
Still, Dae Woon was in a good mood. He walked up beside Ga Eul and subtly took her hand. She looked up at him and smiled brightly. *She’s mine.* Thinking of her as “his” made her seem even more beautiful. Seeing the necklace resting against her slender neck made his chest tighten.
Dae Woon glanced ahead at Ga Eul’s Grandmother, walking in front of them. She was a type of person he’d never encountered before—a grandmother who doted fiercely on her grandchildren.
She appeared frail, yet Dae Woon knew just how strong she truly was: the woman who’d endured the loss of her son and daughter-in-law and protected Ga Eul and Gyeo Wool amid relentless pressure from debt collectors.
How fortunate it was that she was Ga Eul’s grandmother.
Ga Eul tugged on his hand. When Dae Woon lowered his head, she whispered into his ear:
“Please stay behind Grandmother and push the cart—it’ll help block her view. She keeps putting back what I put in the cart, saying things here are too expensive.”
The breath from Ga Eul’s mouth lightly brushed against Dae Woon’s cheek. Dae Woon pressed his hand—halfway lifted toward her cheek—firmly onto the cart’s handle instead.
