Eun Chae suddenly regained full awareness and opened her eyes. Still groggy and with dry eyes, she rubbed them with the back of her hand.

She instinctively started to sit up, then stopped when she noticed the man sleeping beside her like a painted figure. Even his silhouette, swallowed by darkness, was so refined that mistaking him for anyone else was impossible.

How had she fallen asleep here?

In truth, there had been only a few times they’d shared the same bed.

Even on the rare occasions—like when they’d stayed at Geum Bun’s house—Eun Chae usually fell asleep first, and Gi Ju always woke up earlier. Thus, seeing his sleeping face was quite a rare occurrence.

Eun Chae nestled close, slipping his arm beneath her neck like a pillow. Even at rest, his expression usually looked cold, and when his eyes were half-lidded, he exuded an imposing aura—but now, his sleeping face was inexplicably gentle.

“…Pretty.”

It wasn’t the kind of thing one typically said about a man. Yet, she suddenly wondered if “pretty” wasn’t meant only for women’s beauty after all.

His smooth forehead, slender eyes, sharply defined nose, and neatly shaped lips—all seemed tamer, sweeter than when he was awake.

If she voiced this thought aloud, he’d surely narrow his eyes in a straight line, clearly disagreeing. Suddenly, that very expression appeared vividly before her.

It felt both funny and a little guilty, as if she were unfairly mocking him in his sleep. Eun Chae smiled faintly and sat up. She leaned over softly, pressed her lips firmly against Gi Ju’s, and squeezed her eyes shut in embarrassment.

His lips, warm with lingering heat, were so tender and warm they made her heart pound. After savoring the sensation for a moment, she slowly opened her eyes—only to nearly let out a startled cry.

Gi Ju, eyes half-open, was already staring at her, having apparently awakened at some unknown point.

Her lips trembled from surprise, startled by the way he smiled while still kissing her. He didn’t laugh outright—just a quiet chuckle that made his Adam’s apple bob. Thump, thump, thump. Her pulse raced uncontrollably.
