Geum Bun, who had been seeing her off, called out loudly,

“I’ll take the basket myself, so you don’t need to come back!”

The man turned around and gave a slight smile, as if he understood.

There were no tall buildings here to block the wind, making it unusually cold. Most people’s noses and cheeks were red and frostbitten from the chill.

Yet the man looked as fresh as if he were in a different season altogether.

They say people have their own unique aura—could it really be true? Eun Chae thought to herself, then rubbed her suddenly chilled forearms and went back inside.

Geum Bun followed her into the room and, unprompted, offered an explanation.

“Oh, that was the grandson of Grandma Gaenari from next door. He came for winter break from school. He usually visits every vacation.”

“Her front gate is painted forsythia-yellow, so everyone calls her Grandma Gaenari.”

Geum Bun, having already prepared some, handed her an ear of corn.

“Here, you try some too. We steamed it with New Sugar in summer, so it’s already seasoned.”

Eun Chae took an absentminded bite—and her eyes widened. It was sweet, slightly salty, and deliciously unique.

“Eat up, then take a nap. I’ll just pop over to the village hall for a bit.”

“Oh, okay. Take your time and enjoy yourself.”
