“Answer me. I asked you whether you’re going to throw your life away on Han Seung Yoon.”

At those words, the trembling in Eun Chae’s pupils stilled.

The day she first dipped her toes into love—after spending the night together, he left.

She had thought Kwon Gi Ju would be different, even though men’s intentions were all the same.

It took her a long time to admit she’d been betrayed.

After that, she lived without ever knowing whether the emotions filling her mind about Kwon Gi Ju were lingering affection or hatred. She wanted to ruin everything completely, but trapped like a bird in a cage, she couldn’t even do that.

She’d always said she’d shape her own fate—yet Kwon Gi Ju cowardly showed her nothing at all, and for just a fleeting moment, she wavered in the passing breeze.

She had to come to her senses before the axe she trusted struck her foot once again.

Her immigration plan had collapsed into nothing, and she didn’t believe Kwon Gi Ju’s promise that if she stayed quiet, he’d overlook anything she did two months from now.

So she chose Han Seung Yoon.

Because she needed to get as far away as possible from Kwon Gi Ju—faster than the blink of an eye.

She didn’t want to keep hoping whenever she saw him, nor did she want to appear shaken every time he wavered.

Because being abandoned miserably again was as obvious as seeing fire—better a hundred times over to live as mere window-dressing spouses.

Yet here he came again—Kwon Gi Ju, quiet as winter dawn rain. The very person who’d thrown her into this pit of humiliation and betrayal was holding out his hand once more.

With that infuriatingly indifferent face.

“What’s the point of such a life? Shall I roll around with you like before, then?”

Eun Chae sneered as if he’d fallen right into her trap, and Kwon Gi Ju’s eyes, previously fixed on the floor, slowly lifted to meet hers.

He drew a slow, deep breath, his ribcage expanding—then exhaled it languidly.

“Would you like to?”

His tone was flat, unbelievable, yet gentle.

Eun Chae blinked several times, then stared at his cunning face, utterly exasperated.

The pendant light on the ceiling flickered, as if nearing the end of its life. Each time it blinked out, Gi Ju’s shadow grew darker and larger, engulfing her completely.

His gentle whisper seemed to freeze time itself.

The man who’d run away because he lacked the courage—seemingly laid bare yet impossible to read—was standing right before her.

And foolishly, her heart skipped a beat for him again.

Eun Chae’s eyebrows drooped, tracing the shape of her fate downward.

“Mr. Kwon Gi Ju, you really are rock bottom.”

She glared at him, brimming with accusation.

Yet his eyes, as unfathomable as an abyss, gave no reaction.

As if he were being sincere.

Right after that, a cold sensation covered the back of her hand—no need to wonder whether it was the chill of the air or something else.

His fingers boldly intertwined with hers, asserting his presence. Eun Chae’s eyes widened until they stung.

She stared directly at the man as his head tilted gently toward her. She knew exactly what he intended to do. Goosebumps prickled across her skin where his breath touched. It was then she heard the intruder’s voice.

“Team Leader Kwon, are you in here?”

Gi Ju halted just before his lips met hers. Instead, his thick, viscous gaze clung stickily to her face.

Eun Chae quickly turned her burning face away. Hesitating between hiding deeper into the garden or leaving, she finally headed toward the entrance. Though she walked properly, the ground seemed to tremble and her head spun.

“I’ll see you in the morning, then.”

His voice came from behind. She even faintly heard a soft chuckle—clearly just a remark to avoid misunderstanding by the unexpected visitor.

Sunrise crept through the window. Gi Ju stood before the mirror wearing only a vest over his shirt. He ran his hand once more through his already tousled hair, then twisted his shoulders into his jacket. His immaculate appearance gave no hint that he’d been preparing to leave for work since dawn.

He left the room after selecting a watch from the display case and fastening it to his wrist.

True to its reputation as the dormitory for the jumbled-together male security team, the living room was chaotic. Gi Ju strode past the mess as if entirely accustomed to it.

Among the carelessly strewn men’s shoes by the shoe cabinet, he slipped his feet into his own spotless pair. As he opened the front door, the dry morning air rushed at him like a wild animal. Mrs. Seo, who handled cleaning and laundry for the dorm, approached with brisk little steps. Gi Ju gave a slight nod in response to her glance, then stretched out his long legs.

Leaving behind the nondescript gray building—the guesthouse reconstructed from a long-neglected annex—he climbed the slope leading to the main house.

At the entrance of the main building stood a bare-branched tree reaching up to the second floor. White lace curtains fluttered through an open window.

Gi Ju gently pulled the door handle of the main house and stepped inside. Though no one was visible, it was unmistakable that everyone was already busy—perfectly synchronized with Chairman Song Myung Hwan’s notorious inability to sleep in.

As proof, Chairman Song emerged from his room, ready to leave for work at any moment. When Gi Ju bowed respectfully, the chairman simply opened the study door and entered without a word. Gi Ju followed like a shadow.

As soon as Song Myung Hwan entered the study, he opened the window, then reached into the first desk drawer and fumbled around.

“Huh. Habits are scary.”

Famously a heavy smoker, Chairman Song had recently quit—on his doctor’s advice to give up either alcohol or tobacco. Given how obsessively he guarded his health, his decision to quit wasn’t at all surprising. He rubbed his fingers together wistfully, then suddenly turned to Gi Ju with a jesting smile.

“They say the strongest man in the world is the one who’s quit smoking. You’re damn tough, aren’t you?”

“It’s just a recreational habit, after all.”

Gi Ju replied dismissively. This was merely light banter before getting to the real matter. Chairman Song nodded absently and began in earnest.

“I like simplicity. Let’s see if your handling of affairs is just as straightforward.”

Chairman Song, his thick, wrinkled hand resting on the windowsill, turned around. Gi Ju spoke without hesitation.

“Let’s bring Han Seung Yoon right to the brink of a tax audit.”

“That’s too risky. He’s Han Ji Chang’s son, after all. Poke the wrong way and you’ll stir up a hornet’s nest. Can’t we just remove that damn tax accountant?”

“We’ll only remove Kim Han Young. We’ll leak just enough to the press, then suppress it before the investigation starts—no fallout. Once internal fractures appear, Han Ji Chang will grow anxious and lean even more heavily on you. Since he’s staking everything on the next election, he’ll want a firm, reliable alliance.”

Song Myung Hwan’s eyes gleamed as if acknowledging the logic. If Eun Chae and Han Seung Yoon’s marriage went through, there could be no stronger bond.

“This is the slush fund report I mentioned previously.”

Gi Ju placed a thick envelope on the desk. The records had been excluded even from official audits, making them extremely difficult to uncover. Chairman Song smoothed the envelope with a satisfied expression.

“Good work.”

With that, the chairman hurriedly made a phone call, immediately instructing someone to move forward now that the documents were in hand. He gestured for Gi Ju to drink the prepared tea.

Watching Chairman Song’s flushed face, Gi Ju lifted his teacup, hiding the faint smile tugging at his lips behind its rim. Instead, he sipped the pu-erh tea, his eyes fixed on Song Myung Hwan’s wrinkled face, now laughing heartily.

After ending the call quickly, the chairman said with lingering amusement in his voice,

“Oh, by the way—send Eun Chae alone tomorrow. Cancel all her other appointments; she’ll only meet Han Seung Yoon. Hearts grow closer once bodies do, right? Even if she lacks charm, she’s pretty enough—better keep them together often.”

Chairman Song needed Han Ji Chang, and to secure his absolute trust, he’d thoroughly exploit not only Han Seung Yoon but everyone around him. Gi Ju’s thoughts drifted to Song Eun Chae—the unfortunate pawn trapped in this cold-blooded scheme.

He remembered how she’d laughed when she’d claimed she’d slept with Han Seung Yoon—that she’d been drawn to him not by sordid rumors, but by something even cheaper.

No—what was truly laughable was that his own eyes had betrayed him, falling for such transparent lies.

Gi Ju chuckled soundlessly as he exited the study. Though he nodded in agreement to Chairman Song’s suggestion to join him for breakfast before the door closed, he was utterly dumbfounded.

Just then, steady footsteps approached. Song Eun Chae descended the stairs quietly.

The moment he saw her—backlit like an aura—he finally understood.

Why he’d been so shaken by such obvious lies.

It wasn’t because Song Eun Chae had turned into some cunning seductress over two years, nor because she had terrible taste in men.

It was because she was the kind of woman who would earnestly carry out even those lies.

The woman who reached the bottom of the stairs pretended not to see him and walked toward the dining room.

Raised with flawless discipline from childhood, she’d been taught to maintain grace and posture even when physically exhausted.

The invisible wall around her had grown even sturdier than it had been two years ago.

As she passed by, a delicate floral scent filled the air.

Gi Ju seized her wrist as if plucking a fully bloomed flower.

“Are you insane?”

She stopped but refused to meet his eyes as she asked. Gi Ju slowly traced the soft line from her forehead to her nose and lips with his gaze before replying.

“I don’t have any schedule I’m unaware of. When did you make plans with Han Seung Yoon?”

“I’m not obligated to report every single detail to you.”

Just then, the doorbell rang. Simultaneously, Madam Ham An’s voice boomed from the dining room.

“The monkfish must be here! Hurry and get it!”

Hearing swift footsteps approaching in response to Madam Ham An’s command, Gi Ju guided her into the front guest room.

He left her standing in the darkened doorway and said,

“I already gave you my answer.”

Eun Chae tilted her head, puzzled.

“About rolling around together.”

At that, her eyebrows twisted in irritation. Gi Ju took in every subtle shift on her indifferent face.

“You’re serious.”

He stared at her trembling chin.

“Now that you see me, do you regret it? Were you always this fickle?”

She pressed him again.

“I haven’t changed at all.”

Gi Ju spoke in the most refined tone he could muster.

“If my feelings remain unchanged—will you come back to me?”

“What did you just say…?”

“I’ve never—not once—stopped caring about Song Eun Chae.”

With that decisive statement, his hand seized hers.

“I know this is wrong.”

Eun Chae repeated his words silently—”This is wrong”—and let out an incredulous scoff. Her hand swept through her hair with irritated roughness.

“Right. You, who betrayed me and walked away—how dare you do this now?”

Mockery slipped from between her plump lips.

Gi Ju exhaled a sigh that sounded almost like laughter. He lifted their interlaced hands.

“Then you shouldn’t have even considered throwing your life away on Han Seung Yoon.”

“…”

“I can’t stand it.”

Even as Eun Chae twisted her hand to pull away, he held firm. Instead, he pressed her hand to his cheek and lazily lowered his gaze.

His face—infuriatingly unchanged—forced her to strain to catch his calm, gentle words. His beautifully arched eyes curved faintly, almost as if smiling. The blend of his natural scent and cologne made her head spin.

Eun Chae bit her lip hard enough to redden her eyelids, her skin trembling from the pressure.

He—no, Kwon Gi Ju—was qualitatively different from predictable men like Han Seung Yoon. Without any pretense of dominance, he effortlessly claimed control. It infuriated her, made her blood boil—her whole body burned with feverish heat.

To conceal the change in herself, she drew a long breath.

“What’s a dog of Chairman Song Myung Hwan doing, talking like this?”

Gi Ju brought her small, curled hand to his lips. The floral fragrance, as if drenched in perfume, surged through him.

“Because I’m a rude dog.”

He murmured quietly, rubbing her hand against his cheek. Eun Chae flinched at the heat.

‘So that’s why I’m a little curious. Go on, then.’

Though it was winter, the room felt suddenly hot—vaguely reminiscent of that desperate night in the Philippines.

Her skin burned, even though it wasn’t summer.

Everything had begun in sweltering heat, and Kwon Gi Ju had always been a shamelessly rude wolf.

Eun Chae shook off his hand and let out a soft, mocking laugh.

“I was quite smitten with you back then.”

“…”

“But what can I do? Not anymore.”

“…”

“I’ve forgotten you. Still, my life remains dreadfully dull—so why don’t you be my second choice or something?”

After saying that, Eun Chae pushed past him and left the guest room.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

27/12/2025
Side Story 5 Side Story 4

When yandere male lead believes she loves him — but she never did

“How dare you!”

“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?

“I will never accept that.”

“I will never let you return to him.”

“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”

“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”

“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!

At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.

Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.

The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.

Synopsis:

Want to see how a green tea bitch male lead falls in love with the female lead?

Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?

Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?

The male lead is a green tea bitch, a poisonous lotus, jealous, ruthless, unscrupulous, with a venomous heart, and he’s also a delusional maniac.

The female lead is righteous, positive energy-filled, kind, a holy mother.

Let’s see how two people with extreme personalities come together~

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
