Now that they were actually on a date, Eun Chae, uncharacteristically stiff, entered the theater screening room and sat in the seat Gi Ju had told her about.

It was probably because it was a weekday early evening—there weren’t many people around. Moreover, they’d just picked any movie that fit their schedule, only to later realize it was a film about to end its run. Thus, there were only four people in the entire theater, including them.

Soon, the ads ended and the movie began. Unable to focus at first, Eun Chae replayed the day’s events in her mind.

They’d had dinner at a fine dining restaurant and then came to the theater, where they’d amiably picked a popcorn flavor together. She hadn’t even known popcorn came in so many varieties.

True to form, Gi Ju had left the choice to her, and when she picked the savory flavor, he even praised her for making a good choice. With about fifteen minutes left until showtime, they’d already finished their drinks before entering—of course, using just one straw.

The moment when she saw him casually bite into the straw she’d just had in her mouth—she’d blushed then, and that secret would surely stay buried forever.

Eun Chae suddenly felt a new kind of atmosphere and sensation. Though they spent nearly every day together, she’d never imagined doing something like this with him. It was just an ordinary date—exactly what anyone might do—yet that made it all the more special.

Eun Chae glanced sideways at Gi Ju. He was resting his elbow on the armrest, chin propped in his hand. She couldn’t take her eyes off his relaxed, carefree posture, but quickly turned her head forward again. This time, she consciously tried to focus on the movie.

It was the story of a woman who becomes an assassin seeking revenge for her younger sibling’s unjust death. Though the plot was conventional, it featured many brutally gory scenes.

The action sequences were flashy, causing her to blink repeatedly, but Gi Ju seemed utterly unimpressed—almost bored, in fact. Wanting to draw some reaction from him, Eun Chae decided she’d rewatch it later as a topic of conversation.

Maybe next time they should try a horror movie.

Just as she was thinking that, Gi Ju glanced at her, lifted the armrest, and offered her the popcorn.

Eun Chae, who hadn’t even touched the popcorn yet, regretted not ordering caramel—the flavor he liked—instead. She knew he liked sweet things; she just hadn’t been thoughtful enough.

While she sulked to herself, forgetting even to eat, Gi Ju popped a few kernels into her mouth. Startled, Eun Chae flinched, and as he fed her a few more, he gently brushed away the crumbs from her lips with his thumb before leaning back in his seat and turning his gaze to the screen.
