Charlotte told him everything—the story about Tigerson Heyman visiting the shop, her conversation with Mrs. Jess, and even how he had come to confirm the dinner invitation.

MatIEL sat silently throughout Charlotte’s tale, his expression unreadable as if lost in thought. Though he had been pleased that the party in question had come to him of their own accord, his silence frustrated Charlotte, prompting her to urge him onward.

“That second daughter of the house—Flees Heyman—is there no way we could meet her again?”

At Charlotte’s question, MatIEL frowned and let out a short sigh.

“I’ve already sent Eadan to check, but he said the house was eerily quiet.”

“Quiet?”

“He meant that no one answered, no matter how many times he knocked or rang the bell. Still, he insisted there were signs someone was inside—yet only that one man came or went.”

Eadan had faithfully followed MatIEL’s order to observe the surroundings carefully. Moreover, driven not merely by obedience but by genuine concern for Flees Heyman, he had volunteered to go himself. Since Eadan had personally scouted the place and reported back, double-checking was unnecessary.

“This doesn’t make sense. There’s definitely something going on.”

Charlotte shook her head and muttered under her breath as if talking to herself.

MatIEL thought the same. There *was* “something”—it couldn’t possibly be otherwise. It was the kind of story that, if told to ten people, all ten would unequivocally call it “strange”…

But the real problem was figuring out *what* exactly that “something” was.

They had to uncover the true face of this unsettling, dissonant thing—but since they couldn’t do that immediately, both Charlotte and MatIEL felt anxious and bitter.

“It might be a trap.”

Charlotte looked at MatIEL in disbelief as he murmured this while deep in thought.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.

  1. Aelthia Chapter 142

To be honest, Tae Mi is my favorite character in this novel.

  2. Aelthia Chapter 157

Wow that’s grotesque. I didn’t think this novel was going to be so gorey

I’m on Tar Mi’s side here. The Duke seems a bit too careless about his relationship with Charlotte. Feelings or no, it’s as if he hasn’t given any thought to the consequences any of his actions will have on her and her life. I’d say any feelings he has are superficial at best.

  2. Aelthia Chapter 115 — Paragraph 69

Sorry but, what the hell is wrong with this woman? She’s beyond childish & spoiled. Does she have no self outside a desire for the Duke? She really makes no sense. The way others cater to her makes even less sense. The duke is supposed to marry her simply because it’s what Edesa wants? Since when did she out rank him? This mess has no logic to it.

  3. Aelthia Chapter 116 — Paragraph 37
    “Yes, Your Highness.”

They’re both delusional. Didn’t the Duke himself already tell the crown princess he was interested un someone else and wouldn’t marry Edesa?
