Matiel offered only a slight, polite smile and gave no other reply.

As the servant quietly and swiftly brought out the tea, the two drank in silence for a moment.

Though the tea was fragrant and of excellent quality, the pressing issue before them left no room for genuine appreciation.

“I’ve received a more detailed report regarding the incident at the Fells Opera House.”

Matiel’s hand, which had been setting down his teacup, paused briefly.

He lowered his head slightly, then raised his eyes to meet Ryuen’s gaze and slowly swallowed the tea lingering in his mouth.

“A detailed report, you say.”

“I’ve already heard that the Duke was present that day. I hadn’t been told explicitly that he was a witness, but I suspected as much. However, this is the first I’ve heard that he was accompanied by someone.”

Matiel’s expression softened slightly. Only then did he realize he had been unconsciously tense.

His thoughts had been so clouded by an inexplicable anxiety that he hadn’t even known what exactly was causing it.

King Ryuen regarded Matiel with a faint, gentle smile.

“Matiel, could that companion perhaps be the daughter of Barrett you mentioned before?”

There was no reason to lie. Matiel immediately nodded.

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

“The two of you attending the opera together… could it be that you have feelings for that young lady?”
