When The Silver Bell Of Charlotte's Pharmacy Rings (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 166
The boy snarled, baring sharp fangs even with a stake driven through his chest, but when Charlotte pressed down hard on the stake with both hands, he thrashed wildly and screamed.
Hearing Machi’s voice—utterly unchanged from when he was alive—forced Willa to endure indescribable emotions. She had literally watched over Machi since the moment of his first cry. The bitter truth that she would never again witness the child grow and change, nor even be allowed to sleep peacefully like others, pierced her heart.
“Answer me. How did you become a vampire?”
“Get out of the way! Move—! You damn wench!”
“What awful manners for such a little one. Did your master teach you that? Then how about this?”
Charlotte gasped for breath and pulled a pendulum from her pocket. Machi’s eyes turned blood-red and his face twisted grotesquely at the sight of the beads dangling on its chain.
Charlotte stared straight down at his face, which now resembled a tiny demon, and gently swayed the pendulum. Tick, tock, tick, tock… As the heavy silver beads produced a steady rhythm, Machi gaped wide open and silently shrieked.
“Stop it! I told you to stop! Stop—!”
“If you want the pain to end, then answer me! Who turned you into a vampire? Speak up! Now!”
Machi, trembling violently as if about to explode, spat out thick black blood between his lips and cried out.
“Edesa—her maid! Edesa! Edesa!”
Charlotte’s expression changed instantly. In the same moment she turned toward Matiel, he strode forward furiously, his fists clenched tight.
“Edesa? Edesa Fordcom?”
Machi could now only emit choked, gurgling groans. Draining a vampire of all the blood it had stolen from its victims rendered it powerless—though not dead, it fell into a kind of catatonic state.
“Where is that woman?”

Could someone be trying to frame the crown prince?
Yes, kill the vampire before it reveals it’s secrets. This guy is still suspicious. The easiest way to avoid being seen as a suspect is to become a victim.
The guards are to protect the kingdom, it makes no sense to prioritize the guards well being over the kingdoms well being. That is precisely what the 2nd prince has done by letting Maleblanc go and calling a retreat.
