When Pride Falls at Your Feet (19 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 37
“I thought it was going to rain today, so I figured I wouldn’t need to go out.”
In that brief moment, rain had begun pouring from the sky. The sound of raindrops lashing the window like whips filled the room. Emilia turned her head away from the rain-streaked glass and caught Enrico’s violet eyes staring directly at her.
Though his appearance was undeniably handsome and elegant, there was an unnerving chill in the gaze of this man whose true nature remained inscrutable.
“A few days ago, you acted as if you clearly understood your duty—so why did you do it today?”
Emilia’s pupils flickered briefly. She’d sensed it before: he seemed to know every move she made. She’d assumed Zabeta had simply reported back to him, but the way he appeared to know everything suggested he might have had someone following her.
“Is this because I went to meet His Royal Highness?”
Enrico’s eyes narrowed slightly. Whether it was because he hadn’t expected her to admit it so bluntly, or because he disapproved of her meeting Alessandro, he seemed to already know everything—so she saw no point in hiding it and just said it plainly.
“I had no choice—His Highness summoned me. I’m hardly in a position to refuse a royal summons, am I?”
Her racing heart calmed, and her gaze, now lifted toward him, grew steady once more.
It didn’t matter much what Alessandro had wanted to say. After all, he’d asked to see her first at the ball, and then even sent a letter this morning—it was only natural she’d go meet him; there was no other option.
While she wondered what Enrico might say next—surely he couldn’t have followed her all the way into the restaurant to learn what they’d discussed—something she hadn’t considered earlier suddenly struck her.
‘Come to think of it, how did His Highness even know our home address to send the letter?’
Emilia’s brow furrowed slightly. He’d claimed back then he hadn’t investigated her personally, but clearly that was just empty words—was this kind of behind-the-scenes digging standard for royalty?
For all his polite pretenses, he didn’t seem that different from Enrico after all.
No, wait—what exactly was Enrico warning her about? The only thing she could possibly hide from him was the truth about her parents’ deaths. But unless he’d specifically looked into it, he couldn’t possibly know the details, so that couldn’t be it.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
