“I knew it would work out. It never made sense to get you fired.”

“Oh… thank you.”

“Look at this. There’s even the dismissal letter for the director.”

Emilia’s eyes lingered on the names of Director Carlo and Eva Paveria, dismissed for tarnishing the theater’s reputation and violating internal regulations. Reading the line stating the director’s position would remain vacant for some time, she fell into thought.

She couldn’t understand why they’d done such a thing. Even if the director held significant casting authority, assigning absurd roles would inevitably cause controversy—and looking back at Eva’s past role applications, there was nothing particularly scandalous.

Had they intended to gradually leverage the director’s power over time? Or had they simply done it to torment her? If the latter, it seemed far too petty to waste such energy on. Emilia tilted her head slightly and glanced again at her own name written beside the role of Epi.

Out of ten total performances, she’d be on stage for five. Typically, multiple dancers were cast for a single role to accommodate consecutive performance dates, so it seemed they’d scheduled her to appear every other day.

Emilia’s eyes sparkled briefly before she turned her head toward a voice.

“Oh my, what’s this? Isn’t that Eva?”

…Eva? Eva, descending the upper staircase, looked drastically worse than she had just two days prior. Her face was sallow, her lips chapped white, and deep shadows hung under her eyes—an unmistakable sign of sleepless nights.

‘She couldn’t have met the Theater Director… maybe she spoke with the Deputy Director.’

Everyone gathered in the hallway and those ascending the stairs began murmuring at once upon seeing Eva. They’d assumed she wouldn’t return after being effectively chased out on Saturday, yet here she was. It took extraordinary audacity.

“Why’d she even show up? Does she not know where she is?”

“Did she really think only the director would get fired? Seriously, how shameless. I’d be too embarrassed to come back…”

“If she’d been in her right mind, she never would’ve gotten involved with the director like that. Honestly, I don’t get why she picked the director of all people. If anything, why not aim higher? The director’s just a salaried employee—what kind of real power did he even have to make it worth… ugh.”
