For a moment, only the sound of footsteps echoed down the corridor. Soon, the attendant stopped before the reserved room, opened the door, and politely gestured inside with a hand.

As they entered the room, her hand, held by his, was finally freed.

“Stop fretting over useless rumors already and take off that bothersome hood.”

Upon entering the assigned room, Enrico casually remarked as he removed his coat. The attendant, taking the coat, nodded in agreement while glancing at Emilia.

“We operate under a strict members-only policy, so nothing that happens inside is ever disclosed. You can rest assured.”

After hesitating briefly, Emilia eventually removed her hooded outerwear and handed it to the attendant. Indeed, the attendant seemed utterly uninterested in the elegant young woman who had accompanied Enrico. With a focused expression, he neatly hung the coats on the rack, then excused himself from the room, saying he would immediately prepare the reserved meal.

Once the door closed, a brief silence fell. Avoiding Enrico’s piercing gaze from across the table, Emilia deliberately scanned her surroundings.

Though not as grand as the dining room in the duke’s residence, the three-story building was spacious enough to contain several private rooms.

Beyond the arched window opposite the entrance, a narrow river flowed, and behind it stretched a densely wooded forest. Though the branches, having weathered winter, still looked bare, the sunlight-dappled ripples flowed on undisturbed.

“You said a doctor is coming to visit this afternoon.”

It was then, as she blankly watched the water drifting away, that a quiet question made her blink and turn toward Enrico.

“…Yes.”

“If there’s anything even slightly off, tell me straight out. Don’t let things escalate later.”

That remark, seemingly laced with feigned concern, felt more like supervision. Seeing him scrutinize her as though checking for any flaw, Emilia obediently nodded.

Just then, the attendant returned swiftly. Her eyes dimmed as she watched the dishes being set on the table in rapid succession.
