Through the half-drawn curtains, the black night sky was visible.

“You seem to have slept only about four hours—how about lying back down?”

“I’d like to wash up first.”

“Then I’ll prepare fresh clothes for you and change the sheets.”

“Thank you.”

Zabeta showed Emilia the bathroom inside the room and quickly left. Emilia gulped down the water she’d left unfinished earlier and hurried toward the bathroom.

She deliberately avoided recalling the unpleasant dream. She focused only on washing herself in warm water and quickly changed into the nightclothes Zabeta had brought. Truthfully, she wanted to go home right then.

Yet she wondered whether staying overnight here would be a burden, or if requesting a carriage to return home at this late hour would be even more troubling.

Then she remembered that Enrico would surely be informed—and fearing she might run into him at this hour—she decided it was better to stay.

“Here, drink a warm cup of tea and get some proper rest.”

“Thank you. You should go rest soon too, madam. I’ll sit for a while before sleeping.”

“…Understood. Then sweet dreams.”

After hesitating briefly, Zabeta nodded, satisfied by Emilia’s much improved expression, and withdrew. Soon, the sound of the door closing followed.

Seated in a chair before the small fireplace, Emilia leaned back comfortably and slowly sipped her tea. The crackling sound of wood burning in the fire eased her mind.

She briefly wondered if she was being too relaxed in someone else’s mansion, but no one else would come at this hour, and she couldn’t possibly return home immediately anyway—so she resolved to simply let go and not overthink things. Enrico’s icy demeanor earlier still nagged at her, but she was sure everything would be fine if she impressed him with her performance on stage next time.
