Seon Woo was certain that Yeol Mae was a daughter. Every time he saw Eun Jae craving sweet fruits more than meat—and recalling the peach-themed pregnancy dream—he teasingly raised his eyebrows, as if confident his prediction would come true.

Though he had never said it outright, his earnest longing for a daughter occasionally slipped through, visible in his eyes and conversations.

“Aren’t peaches supposed to mean a girl…?”

“Who says that?”

“I’ve just heard it’s usually the case.”

Sure enough, his expression darkened slightly upon learning the baby’s sex. Watching him, Eun Jae couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.

“The person who just said it didn’t matter—where did they go?”

“Of course it doesn’t matter.”

Eun Jae irritably pulled her leg from Seon Woo’s grasp and shot him a glare. Sensing her sharp gaze, the cautious Seon Woo promptly placed her leg back onto his thigh and resumed massaging it.

“I’m worried she might turn out like me.”

“Why? If she resembles even half of you, I’d have no regrets.”

“I hoped for a beautiful daughter who looks like you—bright and spirited, just like you.”

Eun Jae silently stared at Seon Woo for a moment before slowly lifting her heavy body. Then, gently cradling both his cheeks, she spoke.

“Samshin Grandmother must have granted my wish first. I specifically asked Yeol Mae—not too much, not too little—just to grow up exactly like you, Seon Woo. Wait and see—maybe our second child will fulfill your wish instead.”

“There won’t be a second child.”
