A black car came to a gentle stop in front of Eun Jae. It was the car driven by Driver Kim, who had long served as the chauffeur at Seon Woo’s house.

She’d insisted on taking the bus instead.

‘This kindness is excessive.’

At some point, the man’s gaze toward her had grown deeper, more intense.

Even during ordinary conversations with him, an oddly clingy, humid atmosphere lingered in the air around them.

And what about herself, who noticed his behavior was strange yet accepted it so casually?

‘Is this what they call “something”?’

Now she was even entertaining such random thoughts. Eun Jae, gazing out the window, let out a soft chuckle.

Sitting in the back seat, Eun Jae rested her arm against the window and lazily took in the rain streaks left overnight on the roadside.

They’d said this year’s monsoon season would arrive early.

As she watched the scenery of early summer unfolding—lush and green—her eyes suddenly paused on Driver Kim’s back.

Perhaps because he’d been around since she was young, he looked considerably older.

‘If Dad were still alive, would he have looked like that?’

Though she couldn’t be sure about anything else, she guessed they’d have been about the same age. With that thought, Eun Jae shifted her gaze back outside.

She’d assumed living among a lively, large family would keep loneliness at bay—but the more she observed his family, the more she found herself missing her late father.
