A heavy silence flowed over the table where they sat facing each other.

Was it just my imagination?

When with Eun Jae, Grandfather’s expression seemed warmer than it was now.

Though solitary meetings with Grandfather had always been nerve-wracking since childhood—so much so that I should be used to them—this moment felt unusually unbearable even for Seon Woo.

After a long silence, Seok Hee set down his teacup and parted his lips.

“Since a promise is a promise, summon Attorney Shin to your house tomorrow evening.”

Attorney Shin was someone who handled virtually all of Grandfather’s affairs—a true right-hand man. He had been by Grandfather’s side both on the day the will was first drafted and on the day Grandfather abruptly decided to revise it.

“Huh? Attorney Shin?”

Was it really going to be resolved this easily? Seon Woo’s expression, tense just moments before, shifted into stunned disbelief.

Though this was undeniably the outcome he’d hoped for, strangely, he didn’t feel even the slightest joy—only bewilderment and disorientation.

In that fleeting instant, Eun Jae’s voice echoed in Seon Woo’s mind.

“You have to keep your promise.”

“The promise you made—that once everything’s settled, you’d let me go even before the contract period ends.”

Last night, he’d briefly entertained the thought that this marriage, which had perhaps begun as a sham, might actually culminate in a real one.

Whether Eun Jae would cooperate, though… he had no idea.
