The moment Eun Jae finished her academy class, she hurried back to the annex to pack her things—and froze in place, startled, upon unexpectedly encountering Seon Woo.

He stood right by the entrance, still wearing his shoes, engaged in a phone call with someone, looking so perfectly fine that she wondered if he could possibly be the same person who had collapsed that morning.

She had assumed he’d still be lying down, so she’d only planned to peek in briefly before leaving.

As her thoughts and plans unraveled instantly, Eun Jae felt her mind go completely blank.

“I’ll head over to you once I’m off work.”

Seon Woo, too, seemed caught off guard by her sudden appearance; his gaze briefly turned cold toward her before he refocused on the call.

“Yes, please do that. Then I’ll see you later, Attorney Shin.”

Attorney Shin. The name landed heavily on Eun Jae’s chest like a boulder—because of what Seon Woo had told her the day before.

“The annulment lawsuit will be handled by Attorney Shin, so there’s no need to doubt it.”

How quickly things moved. It was as if he’d been eagerly waiting for exactly this to happen.

Caught in that thought, Eun Jae scoffed inwardly. How absurd. After she’d so harshly declared their breakup and torn apart his heart with her own words, had she somehow still hoped he’d reach out and hold her back?

While she was briefly lost in thought, Seon Woo had already ended his call and now tilted his head slightly, silently watching her.

An eerie stillness settled between them, as though time itself had stopped.

The stretching silence had grown unbearable, making the growing distance between them painfully clear.

“You said you were leaving—yet you’re still here.”
