Claire stubbornly insisted on returning to the Grand Duke’s residence.

Liz also gave up trying to persuade her any further.

“If you change your mind, come visit. I’ll always keep the door open for you.”

“There won’t be any such thing, so make sure you lock the door tightly.”

Yet, despite having insisted so stubbornly on coming back, Claire’s expression wasn’t particularly bright.

Throughout the entire dinner with the Grand Duke she admired, her usual liveliness and cheerfulness were nowhere to be found.

The Grand Duke didn’t ask her anything, wanting to wait until she opened up on her own, but as the silence dragged on, he decided to gently probe.

“How did it feel seeing your daughter after so long?”

“Oh, well…”

Seeing Claire roll her eyes as if searching for an excuse, the Grand Duke became certain.

‘Something must have happened.’

He carefully spoke in a calm tone, trying not to seem like he was pressing her.

“Still, it’s nice to see her, isn’t it? That’s just how blood ties are—full of both affection and frustration.”

“Yes… well…”

Claire answered absentmindedly, her mind tangled in confusion.
