When I Let Go of Obsession, I Got Obsessed (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 100

The faint twilight slowly pushed back the darkness from the east, yet it was still insufficient to awaken the slumbering earth.

It was still the hour when neither man nor beast had risen.

Nothing stood in the way of the man in knee-high boots as he parted the tall grass and approached the stable.

Only the diligent grasshoppers were awake, hopping about here and there—but no matter how loudly they chirped, their song would reach the ears of sleeping men only as a gentle lullaby.

The man paused briefly, then crouched low within the tall grass to survey the stable entrance. Two guards sat on the ground on either side of the gate, their heads and arms drooping limply—a clear sign they were deeply asleep.

The man rose again and slowly approached the entrance.

What he had mistaken from afar for the sound of grasshoppers turned out, upon closer inspection, to be the snoring of the two guards. At this realization, the man smiled silently and murmured softly,

“Sorry, friends. I’m in a bit of a hurry.”

It was an apology for having slipped them drugged wine that left them utterly unconscious.

Bending down, the man reached for the bundle of keys tied to his friend’s belt. Suddenly, the guard grabbed his hand.

“…!”

The man flinched in surprise but quickly relaxed, recognizing it as merely a reflexive action—like the homing instinct of a drunken man. His friend remained fast asleep.

One by one, the man pried the guard’s fingers loose, and they fell away as he freed them. At last, he secured the key bundle. There were two keys.

He used one to unlock the stable door.

Inside, most of the horses stood dozing, save for a few. They flicked their ears briefly at the sound of the stranger’s entrance but showed no sign of alarm.
