When I Let Go of Obsession, I Got Obsessed (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
“It looks good. Isn’t that the case?”
Liz forced an awkward smile as she evaded the question.
“I’ll escort you.”
He draped a robe over Liz’s shoulders, put on his own, and then moved toward her again as if to embrace her once more.
At that moment, Liz quickly stepped back and said,
“No need for that anymore. I can walk on my own now.”
This time, she spoke quite firmly—she knew that speaking softly wouldn’t get through to him.
Perhaps having been rejected several times already, Cain didn’t insist this time.
“Understood. Then at least let me support you.”
“No, I don’t need support either.”
When she refused even his offer to support her, Cain’s eyes grew slightly cold. Liz flinched a little at his gaze but held her ground and continued.
“If I were in such a state that I needed support, there’d be no way I could attend tomorrow’s ball. I’ll manage on my own from now on. So you should go back to Lilia.”
“……”
“She’s your master. You should take care of your master.”
Surely he’d understood by now. He must have clearly realized that his master was no longer her, but Lilia. Even without proper justification, he’d obey her words.
Just as she was convinced of this—
Cain suddenly began walking slowly toward her.
Liz felt her heart drop at the overwhelming pressure emanating from his posture and expression.
Was this the famed imperial dignity she’d only heard about? Or perhaps it was more like the intimidating aura of a male predator. She couldn’t be certain which.
Either way, it was more than enough to make her step backward.
Liz felt the cold touch of the marble tiles against her back. There was nowhere left to retreat, yet Cain kept advancing.
‘What on earth did I say wrong to make him act like this?’
She briefly reflected on her words but couldn’t pinpoint anything specific.
While she was lost in thought, Cain closed the distance until their chests were nearly touching.
Unconsciously, Liz swallowed hard. She even wanted to close her eyes—but held back, fearing it might be misinterpreted in another way.
Fortunately, he stopped just short of actual contact. After holding her with an unreadable gaze for a moment, he finally spoke.
“You really are…”
Really what?
“Quite skilled at driving people mad.”
“……?”
“I decide who my master is.”
With those words, Cain abruptly turned and strode out of the bathing chamber.
Liz stood there dazed for a while, silently repeating his words in her mind.
‘I decide who my master is? Could he be offended? Because I was telling him what to do?’
That might well be the case, Liz thought.
After all, he was the Crown Prince. She’d always heard that the imperial family of Luzencia had exceptionally strong pride.
She wouldn’t dare speak so freely to him again.
Still, it was fortunate she knew the original story. Otherwise, she might have misunderstood—made a ridiculous mistake.
The absurd notion that Cain might see her differently.
The moment he returned to his quarters, Cain tossed aside his robe and flung the window wide open.
Only when the cool air touched his bare skin did he finally feel somewhat alive again.
His body felt unusually feverish today. Though he’d felt this heat ever since pressing close to Liz, it was especially intense now.
He knew it stemmed from more than just physical stimulation.
Refusing even his support…
He already understood she wasn’t pushing him away just to gain attention, yet he hadn’t expected such a strong rejection.
Recalling Liz’s changed attitude compared to before only deepened his irritation.
She consistently acted as though keeping him near would bring her grave danger.
Had she perhaps dreamed something? A nightmare where he gruesomely killed her?
Cain let out a faint, wry chuckle at the uncharacteristically fanciful thought.
Yet unlike his dry laugh, his pale blue eyes shimmered with unease and anxiety.

Perhaps…
Yes, perhaps Liz would never look back at him again.
Maybe even sabotaging the arranged meeting and acting warmer than before wouldn’t be enough to win back her heart.
Then what should he do?
Should he constantly hover around her, as she used to do with him?
He shook his head.
Experience told him that wasn’t a good approach—it might only annoy her and push her further away.
Then what would work?
His chest tightened again as if clogged, and even the cool breeze couldn’t relieve the suffocating feeling.
Suddenly, Cain noticed something odd and turned toward the mirror hanging on the left wall.
One of his eyes… had changed color.
He needed to take his medicine.
“Huh…”
Sighing quietly at the thought of another dreadful battle against pain, Cain turned away from the mirror—when suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck him.
He turned back toward his reflection.
Now, a completely different face stared back at him from the mirror, as if it belonged to a stranger.
When he tilted his head, the man in the mirror tilted his head too. When he curved the corners of his lips into a smile, the man mirrored it—but with a far more alluring, languid, and seductive smile.
He thought to himself:
Perhaps that man could hold onto Liz’s departing heart.
The finished dresses arrived at the mansion the day before the ball.
Lilia’s was an embroidered dress made of golden-brown satin. Rather than using wide, voluminous skirts, it minimized lace and ribbon embellishments so that delicate Lilia wouldn’t be swallowed up by the fabric.
In contrast, Liz’s dress was made of soft yellow silk. Though not as dramatically flared as Lilia’s, its naturally flowing lines perfectly suited her petite, curvier figure.
In any case, both dresses were exceptionally beautiful.
Their mother, eager to see her daughters in their gowns, summoned them to her dressing room. There, Liz and Lilia each put on their brand-new dresses and turned around before their mother in turn.
“You both look truly lovely. But why is Liz’s dress brighter? Lilia is the protagonist. If Lilia’s dress looks duller than her sister’s, what will people say?”
Mother scolded Liz as if it were her fault. Lilia, flustered, immediately wrapped an arm around her sister.
“No, Mother. I asked for it. They said there was only enough soft yellow fabric for one dress. I don’t mind whichever color I wear.”
“What a sweet Lilia. Honestly, in our house, the younger sister acts like the elder, and the elder like the younger. Liz, why did you just stay quiet? You let your sister give it up for you?”
“Mother, I…”
Liz tried to say something.
“No, Sister said several times it was fine.”
Once again, Lilia spoke up for her, nearly in tears as she pleaded.
“But I felt so uneasy about it. Truthfully, I felt sorry seeing how much weaker Sister has become since her accident. I thought if she wore something brighter, she might cheer up a little. So I insisted she take it. It’s entirely my fault, Mother.”
Lilia finally burst into tears. Mother’s eyes reddened, and even the maids dabbed at their eyes.
The only ones not crying were Liz and Mirabel.
“I see. I misunderstood your deep feelings and acted thoughtlessly. Forgive me. And I’m sorry to you too, my dear eldest daughter, for misjudging you.”
Liz hadn’t said a word, yet she was forgiven. She wasn’t sure whether to call this efficiency or not.
“Mother… *sob*.”
Lilia leapt into her mother’s open arms. Though Mother had spread her arms wide enough for both daughters, sadly, only Lilia was embraced—
Because Liz had no intention of stepping into those arms.
“Madam is being too unfair! How can she not listen to you at all, Miss?”
The moment Mirabel entered the room, she burst out in complaint. Their roles had reversed—now Liz had to comfort Mirabel.
“So what? As long as the misunderstanding is cleared up, that’s what matters.”
“Yes, the misunderstanding is cleared. But now Madam’s affection for Miss Lilia has only grown stronger! Does that make any sense? Since when has anyone favored an adopted daughter over their own blood?”
“But the adopted daughter is just so lovable, isn’t she? Honestly, even I’d care more for a daughter like Lilia than one like me.”
“Miss!”
Mirabel disliked Liz’s habitual self-deprecation.
Her young mistress was more precious to her than anyone—her Miss deserved to be number one.
Seeing Monica, Lilia’s maid who used to be utterly meek, now walking with newfound confidence had left Mirabel’s heart not just aching, but utterly pulverized.
“That’s why you should try to be a bit….”

“Warmer to Mother? After twenty years of keeping our distance, you expect me to start now? She’d be so shocked she might faint.”
“……”
“By the way, has Lilia found a partner yet?”
“No. She has.”
“Really? Who is it? How did she manage that?”
Liz’s eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected news.
In truth, Mirabel was even more upset because of it.
“Madam asked one of the suitors she’d intended to introduce to you the other day—the eldest son of House Bert.”
“The eldest son of House Bert? You don’t mean Viscount Bert, do you? Wow, Mother really pulled some strings.”
“Exactly!”
Mirabel pounded her chest in frustration.
“He was clearly the best among all the suitors Madam had lined up for you—perfect in status, looks, and character. Why give someone like that to Miss Lilia as her partner?”
“Well, I suppose…”
It must be for Mother’s pride—to show the world they don’t just pair their illegitimate daughter with any man.
“In any case, your marriage to Viscount Bert is off the table now.”
“I’m not the slightest bit disappointed, so don’t worry.”
*I’m the one who’s devastated…* Mirabel barely held back the words.
Pretending not to notice Mirabel’s disappointment, Liz thought to herself:
‘Viscount Bert, huh… So things are roughly following the original plot?’
According to Liz’s memory, Viscount Bert wasn’t supposed to visit the marquisate as Liz’s suitor until a bit later—and only then would he fall for Lilia at first sight.
But if it’s happening sooner, that’s fine by me.
Kind-hearted Lilia, regardless of her true feelings, would treat Viscount Bert gently, and the kind—and strikingly handsome—Viscount would fall for her, visiting the marquisate daily. And Cain…
Would realize his feelings for Lilia as he watched the two grow close.
After all, jealousy was the finest tool for awakening love.
Liz hoped fervently that the two would fall in love as soon as possible—
And leave her life behind once and for all.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.

Gosh, I hate this mother of female lead. What the heck she think she is. How artificial. I wish to see her fall badly.
