On the fifth day, Hersis remained unconscious.

His wounds weren’t deep, and there was no intracranial bleeding—they’d said he’d wake up soon. So why wouldn’t he open his eyes?

Liz grew increasingly anxious as time passed.

He showed absolutely no sign of waking.

She pressed her ear to his chest several times a day, fearing he might have stopped breathing. They’d told her talking to him often would help him awaken faster, so she read books aloud and even sang to him. Eventually, she even pleaded through tears.

But none of her efforts yielded any result.

He slept as though he might never wake again.

Liz couldn’t leave his side for even a moment, terrified something might happen to him while she was away.

Naturally, meals became an afterthought, and she could only manage brief naps beside him.

Rosa approached cautiously and gently urged Liz.

“Your Majesty, at this rate you’ll fall ill yourself. Please go eat something properly.”

“It’s fine. I don’t think I could keep food down anyway, so don’t worry.”

A more maternal woman might have eaten for the sake of the child in her womb even in this situation.

But for Liz, her sole maternal instinct that day had been merely clutching her abdomen instinctively at the moment of her fall. She couldn’t muster enough affection for the unborn child to eat while her husband hovered between life and death.
