Trapped in the Mad Duke's Snare (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 67
“It’s painfully obvious.”
In Cassis’s hand was the Crown Prince’s letter, crumpled tightly in his grip.
Eric, who had entered the study on official business, quickly lifted his head at the sound the moment he stepped inside.
“What’s the matter?”
Seeing the letter in the duke’s hand, Eric swiftly grasped the current situation.
Anyone could tell it was unmistakably sent by Crown Prince Trashi. Letters from the imperial family never brought good tidings to the ducal household.
“It says the plague caused by the floods in my duchy has grown severe and public outrage is mounting, so I must handle it personally.”
“Since when has His Highness the Crown Prince cared about the grievances of village folk?”
Eric let out a derisive snort at the duke’s words.
“He’s bringing up how you turned your carriage toward the flood-stricken village while on patrol. He’s clearly planning to blame you for neglecting your duchy.”
“Of course he’s making an issue out of that.”
“Moreover, rumors are spreading in the capital about there being two suns.”
He knew well that Cassis’s red eyes had once again become the talk of the town after appearing side by side with the Crown Prince at the Empress’s celebratory banquet.
He was also fully aware that Trashi was in a thoroughly foul mood—and that the servants in the Crown Prince’s palace were barely surviving the fallout.
The duke found Trashi’s current behavior utterly transparent.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the crown prince stabs the empress some day.
Wow, I thought these two had made progress. I’m a bit surprised by the Duke’s reaction but he has been ill and chronic illness can affect your thought process.
I get the feeling Severus isn’t what he appears to be. Perhaps like his namesake?
