To You, Whom I Shouldn't Love (24 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 4
Returning to her room, Riena gazed out the window with a face full of thoughts. Then, feeling a presence, she turned around.
Before she knew it, Joanna, who had followed her, was standing there with her head deeply bowed as if she had committed a crime.
“Miss, I’m truly sorry. Truly sorry…….”
Riena approached Joanna, who could no longer continue speaking and was only shedding tears drop by drop. When she carefully lifted Joanna’s face, she saw cheeks that were even more swollen than before.
“I’m sorry. Does it hurt a lot? Because of me, you’ve suffered for no reason. How’s the inside of your mouth? It’s not torn, is it?”
“It seems slightly torn, but it’s all right.”
“All right? Hurry and go get treated by the physician. It’s not a wound that will leave a scar, but it would still be better to apply ointment.”
Joanna sniffled again, tears welling up.
“Is this really the time to worry about me? Miss, what are you going to do now? Even if you send another letter to Lord Berna, Madam will notice immediately.”
“Well. I’ll have to think about that again.”
Muttering bitterly, Riena gently turned Joanna around with a soft touch.
“For now, don’t worry about me and go to the physician. I’m tired, so I need to sleep.”
“Are you really sure you’re all right?”
“Of course. So you rest well too.”
“Yes. If you ever need me, please call me anytime.”
“I will.”
After Joanna left, Riena silently glared at the closed door for a moment before going to the bed and sitting down.
It was a night when sleep would not come easily.
[This is the timeline separator]That night, Riena could not sleep properly because of her endless worries. After tossing and turning all night, Joanna urgently woke her just as she had finally drifted into a light sleep.
“Miss! Miss, please wake up!”
“Mm, what is it?”
“It seems a guest has arrived at the mansion!”
“A guest?”
At that single word, Riena’s eyes snapped open. Quickly getting up, she slipped out of bed and ran to the window.
Just as Joanna said, a carriage was parked at the mansion’s main gate.
Her heart pounded.
“Could it be Raoul?”
“Do you mean Lord Berna? Well, I’m not sure.”
“It’s probably Raoul. Yes, Raoul came down to his hometown, so there’s no way he wouldn’t come here! Besides, at this timing, who else would come but Raoul?”
It was a little strange that Raoul had come by carriage instead of on horseback, but she thought it was entirely possible.
With Joanna’s help, Riena hurriedly changed her clothes and rushed down to the first floor. She could see Countess Daik greeting the guest in the hall.
Riena was about to dash down the stairs in one go when she saw the guest who had entered the mansion remove his hat, and she stopped in her tracks.
‘It’s not Raoul?’
Her longtime friend, Raoul Berna, had wheat-colored hair. It was darker than gold yet lighter than brown, a unique shade reminiscent of ripened wheat dyeing the fields each autumn.
Yet the guest who had just entered the mansion had strikingly bright blond hair that was noticeable even from afar.
Moreover, the body revealed the moment he took off his jacket was different from Raoul’s.
Raoul, a knight who had wielded a sword for many years, possessed a sturdy build.
Unlike his slender childhood self, he had built considerable muscle, to the point that Riena had once jokingly remarked, “If you move even a little, your shirt might burst.”
Yet the man now conversing with the countess was roughly the same height as Raoul but had a different physique. His body was slender enough that a fitted shirt did not look burdensome.
‘Who on earth is he?’
At that moment, the man looked toward Riena. He raised a hand to Countess Daik to ask for understanding, then began walking toward Riena.
His long legs strode forward refreshingly. It was a fast yet miraculously graceful gait.
“It has been a long time, Lady Daik.”
When the man finally stood before her, Riena recognized who he was.
“Lord Belliar?”
As she unconsciously murmured, the man’s face lit up with a bright smile.
“I am glad you remember me.”
He removed the white gloves he was wearing. Then he gently took Riena’s right hand and lightly kissed the back of it. He was as careful as if handling a sugar doll that might shatter with the slightest pressure.
“I have missed you dearly.”

His fingers slipped between Riena’s white and slender ones.
“You are still as beautiful as ever.”
“Um…….”
It was just as Riena cautiously tried to withdraw her hand.
“Can’t you take that hand off?”
At some point, Viscount Rotman had appeared and shouted with a flushed face at the sight of the two. The man’s expression hardened coldly for an instant when he spotted the viscount hurrying over.
Yet before anyone could notice that expression, he painted on a perfect smile again.
“Who might this gentleman be?”
“A guest who is visiting the mansion for a short while…….”
“Who are you calling a guest! I am none other than Lady Daik’s fiancé, Viscount Rotman!”
In that moment, no one noticed the meaningful chill that flickered across the man’s lips once more.
[This is the timeline separator]The man’s name was Johannes Belliar. The only son and heir of Marquis Belliar.
Riena had seen Johannes several times at parties in the capital that she had attended with her father, Count Daik.
〈Seeing you, my lady, somehow makes me feel nostalgic.〉
Johannes had approached Riena, who was alone on the terrace, with those words.
〈How curious. Haven’t we met somewhere before?〉
At the time, Riena had thought Johannes’s sweet words were the kind of lines she had read about in romance novels and tried to avoid him.
Yet Johannes possessed a strange charm that put people at ease, and their conversation had surprisingly been enjoyable.
〈I hope we may meet again.〉
Riena had felt a brief, rational attraction to him. However, upon discovering that Johannes was affectionate toward everyone—even men—she folded away that budding feeling before it could fully sprout.
After that, she had run into Johannes at several more parties, danced with him, and chatted.
But that was all. Riena had not kept in special contact with Johannes afterward. He never reached out to her first, and she felt no need to contact him either.
‘Yet why on earth has he come all the way here?’
Riena slightly lowered her head, avoiding Johannes’s gaze that continued to watch her with a smiling face, and thought.
A guest who had come without notice to a mansion where even Count Daik was absent.
Riena first calmed the agitated Viscount Rotman, then guided Johannes to the drawing room.
And as they sat facing each other in silence, Johannes, who had been quietly watching Riena, finally spoke.
“I heard the news about Count Daik. Though late, I pray for the repose of the departed. I learned of it too late and could not attend the funeral. Please forgive my rudeness.”
Riena lifted her bowed face and shook her head.
“No. My late father would have fully understood. You are so busy, after all. It is not easy to come all the way from the capital.”
In the magically advanced empire, magic portals connecting various regions were installed. Using those portals, one could travel to another region in the blink of an eye.
However, the closest magic portal to the Daik territory was three days away by carriage. Because it was a border region, this was to prevent enemies from easily using the portals in case of invasion.
For that reason, aside from those who had been very close to Count Daik, no one had attended the funeral.
Johannes not coming was nothing to feel hurt about.
“My own mother also passed away suddenly several years ago. So I understand well how you feel, my lady. If you ever feel difficult or sad, please come to me anytime. I hope I can be of help.”
“Thank you, even for saying so.”
“These are not mere pretty words; I truly wish to be of help to you.”
“Yes, I know. But I do not wish to trouble you. Just hearing those words is already a great help.”
With that, conversation between them paused for a while. Johannes looked as though he had much to say but did not readily open his mouth, while Riena had nothing in particular to say and merely fidgeted with her clasped hands.
Eventually, unable to bear the silence, Riena spoke first.
“Do you plan to stay in the Daik territory?”
“Yes. I heard the Daik territory is exceedingly beautiful in autumn, so I intend to stay a few days and enjoy a vacation.”
“That’s right. In autumn, the maple leaves turn especially lovely colors here. I hope you can fully enjoy the beautiful scenery. Have you decided on a place to stay?”
“I came in such a hurry that I haven’t arranged anything yet. My aide has gone to the village to look for one right now.”
“It’s the busy farming season, so the village will be quite occupied. If it is all right with you, my lord, how about staying at our mansion?”
“Would that really be acceptable?”
“Of course.”
Riena smiled, crinkling her eyes.
“I’ll have a guest room prepared right away. It won’t take very long. I’ll ask them to prepare it quickly so you can rest from your journey.”

“Thank you, my lady. That was not my intention, yet I have ended up imposing on you.”
“Imposing? Not at all. Then please wait just a moment.”

I still don’t get how the countess has this much power when she’s not even blood related. Like I get she’s the elder but then when riena turns of age shouldn’t she be the proxy head or smth?? Idk I feel like that’s more plausible.
Wat happened to the other guy—raol or smth??? Wasn’t as going to go to him first?
