“Woo Jun, have you been getting beaten up by people lately?”

The weather had cooled down enough that they no longer needed to run the air conditioner even during the day. Woo Jun stared at Hye Yoon with a bewildered look—her suggestion that he’d been getting beaten up felt utterly alien. The sunlight filtering through made her brown eyes appear unusually clear.

“How exactly would someone look at this build and think that?”

“Maybe you’ve been hit so much your whole body swelled up like this? You look even puffier than before.”

Where did she even get such unique imagination? Inside that tiny head probably lived a curly-haired kid hopping around on the belly of a teddy bear as big as a house—a completely innocent child with not a speck of malice.

“It’s not puffy—it’s solid.”

Woo Jun let out a quiet chuckle. Oblivious to his amusement, Hye Yoon lightly tapped his thick forearm with her small fist as he drove, then quickly gave up. It was a strange kind of hit—leaving the one receiving it completely unfazed, while the one striking felt all the pain.

His sun-kissed skin, broad frame, and well-defined muscles made it obvious, even without introduction, that Woo Jun was someone who worked out.

“No classes today?”

“Yeah. I explained my situation and postponed all five of them.”

“You really didn’t have to go through all that trouble…”

“It’s technically my first official schedule as a female lead in a one-act play, even if it’s just pretend. Going alone would’ve felt awkward.”

The way he shrugged and focused back on driving felt especially manly today.

Woo Jun ran a one-on-one fitness center in the same building as Hye Yoon’s café. They didn’t see each other every day, but this was the first time they’d gone over a week without meeting.

That week really should’ve been monumental.

“But you don’t seem curious at all. You haven’t asked a single question?”

Compared to Min Joo, who’d been bursting with hundreds of questions as if watching her own daughter’s first romance, their reactions were polar opposites. Hye Yoon watched him nod along to the music playing on the radio. His gentle eyes showed no trace of inner turmoil.

“What’s there to be curious about? You said you’d just pretend to date by doing this and that. It’s not like you’re actually together.”

“Heh heh. ‘This and that.’”

Typical Kim Woo Jun—someone who absolutely despised complications. Hye Yoon couldn’t help but smile, unsure whether to call him big-hearted or just slow.

“I’ll help out as much as I can on my days off. Not that it’ll be many times. Min Joo said she’s going to work as a stylist, so I guess that makes me… your manager?”

“Hmm, is it really okay to just keep receiving help like this?”

“If you’re grateful, next time get me a signed photo from that fake boyfriend of yours. I’ll use it to attract new gym members.”

He was already so excited about the influx of potential new members that his shoulders started bobbing. Though she scolded him for looking like a fool, Hye Yoon actually felt deeply thankful.

“We’re almost there—can’t we just park above ground?”

“No, let’s go to the underground parking lot.”

Hye Yoon’s eyes scanned the neatly written message on her phone:

[Writer Jang, there are many press people on the ground level. Please enter through Exit E of the underground parking lot. (1:31 PM)]

It was from Ji Ho’s manager, Bong Gi. Judging by the message sent about ten minutes ago, Ji Ho had probably already arrived—or maybe he’d known all along without even checking.

Parking in the underground lot gave them no trouble, thanks to Woo Jun’s excellent sense of direction and driving skills. Only a slight awkwardness arose from the security guard’s gaze at the building entrance.

Rather than verifying their identities, the guard’s eyes roamed over them with burning curiosity. “Ah, so you’re Jang Hye Yoon,” he muttered to himself, as if he knew exactly who she was. Even to a man in his fifties, Hye Yoon had become that kind of person now.

“I should head in now. Thanks for driving me.”

“Huh? I’m not coming in?”

Woo Jun looked at Hye Yoon’s wide-eyed, puzzled expression with even greater bewilderment. His fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel.

“If I leave a directionally challenged person in such a huge building… you probably won’t make it home until next week.”

“It’s not that bad.”

“You’re exactly that bad. Heh heh. Finish your work and come down slowly. I’ll be waiting.”

Hye Yoon considered showing how touched she was by Woo Jun’s unexpected thoughtfulness, but he swiftly shut down any awkwardness before it could unfold. He just silently mouthed, “Go quickly.” That was so perfectly Kim Woo Jun that Hye Yoon smiled as she stepped out of the car.

After taking the elevator to the 17th floor, Hye Yoon walked lightly down the hallway. The gazes of the three women she passed on her way to the meeting room overlapped eerily with the security guard’s earlier look.

Knock knock—

“Hello.”

“Oh! Writer Jang, you’re here!”

The first person she saw upon opening the door was Min Woo. At Min Woo’s overly cheerful greeting, about ten people inside turned toward the door. Hye Yoon instinctively glanced behind her—wondering if someone important stood there, drawing their attention.

Her hesitant, uneasy glance back made her look exactly like a child who’d just broken a dish and was sneaking a peek at Mom’s reaction—like her joints might creak at any moment.

“Our Writer Jang is still as cute as ever.”

“Ugh, hyung, stop it already.”

The people in the room were the cast of . From the familiar faces of some actors to the name tags neatly placed at each seat, it was obvious. Hye Yoon naturally moved toward her own name.

“You’re technically supposed to sit next to me.”

Noticing Hye Yoon glancing around, Min Woo continued while looking at the script cover.

“The director and writer usually sit together during script readings to exchange opinions easily. But since you’re also acting, maybe it’s unnecessary.”

“Oh…”

Min Woo seemed conflicted about where to seat Hye Yoon, now both writer and actress. Hye Yoon paused mid-step and looked at him.

“Actually, since it’s not a drama with a huge cast, it’s not that critical. But Hye Yoon, wouldn’t it be best for you to sit next to Ji Ho?”

“I’m fine sitting anywhere.”

“Aww, you’re already standing right at Ji Ho’s seat anyway.”

Lowering her head at Min Woo’s words, Hye Yoon clearly saw the name tag on the table: . Right beside it sat another: . Min Woo had apparently already decided on this seating arrangement.

Ji Ho’s seat was empty, allowing Hye Yoon to comfortably admire the name tags. Their names—Ji Ho and Hye Yoon—written in black ink on crisp white paper, placed side by side, looked refreshingly bright.

‘How nice it would be if no one else were in this room right now. What’s this even about?’

She wanted to look longer, more steadily, though she couldn’t explain why. A tiny snort escaped her lips, and she lightly licked her lips, which tingled as if a butterfly had just landed there.

“Hye Yoon, there are so many eyes on you right now. Are you really going to keep showing it off like that?”

“Huh?”

She hadn’t been overly smitten or anything—Hye Yoon quickly snapped back to attention and turned swiftly toward Min Woo.

Her shoulders trembled slightly as her hair swayed, and everyone’s eyes sparkled in response. Instantly, energy filled the room. Everyone seemed eager to say something, their lips twitching to speak.

“This is peak romance—just seeing the name alone makes your heart ache, makes you miss them, right?”

“N-no! It’s not like that!”

Well, maybe not exactly aching, but she had missed him. Embarrassed at having her feelings so easily seen, Hye Yoon squeaked like a baby chick.

At that moment, murmurs from the hallway drew everyone’s attention to the door. It swung open, and Ji Ho entered amidst a commotion.

“Hello.”

Through the narrowing gap of the closing door, they could see broadcast station staff outside stomping their feet or covering their open mouths with their hands. Min Woo glanced from his colleagues outside back to Ji Ho, then nodded involuntarily—yes, that face was absolutely worth losing dignity over.

“The lead sure knows how to time his entrance.”

Dressed in a navy shirt and black slacks, Ji Ho exuded intense masculinity. The way his strong Adam’s apple moved softly between two unbuttoned shirt buttons felt strangely sensual, so Hye Yoon quickly averted her eyes.

“Sounds like you were talking about me.”

Ji Ho raised one eyebrow and walked toward his seat as if deciphering Min Woo’s words—only to find Hye Yoon already standing there.

After a week apart, Hye Yoon still moved with that familiar lightness, her face glowing softly like the small pearl earring resting on her earlobe.

He puffed his cheeks full of air, then looked away. Watching that, Ji Ho’s heart melted into something unbearably soft.

What on earth was there to be so shy about?

“No, Writer Jang is just acting way too lovey-dovey.”

“Whoa! Is this how you gang up on someone?”

Hye Yoon shot Min Woo a resentful glare. Ji Ho, meanwhile, scanned the room slowly, taking in all the actors. Everyone looked cheerful and excited—especially attentive toward Hye Yoon.

For some reason, that felt slightly disappointing. So everyone had finally realized how cute she was—making him irrationally envious.

‘Am I really this childish…?’

Every emotion he felt through her was so unfamiliar that Ji Ho found himself genuinely amazed.

His long strides, matching his height, soon brought him right behind Hye Yoon. She flinched slightly and turned her head. After a week apart, he was as strikingly handsome as ever.

“I just teased Writer Jang a bit because she missed Ji Ho.”

“It’s not really like that…”

The moment their eyes met, her sharp retort faded into mumbled silence. But this time, she didn’t look away. The warmth in his gaze—one she always wanted to stay in—rippled gently like water.

“Alright. Let’s sit for now.”

Ji Ho smiled softly and gently squeezed one of her slender shoulders as if giving a light massage. With his other hand, he pulled out her chair and gave her a meaningful glance.

One by one, chairs scraped as people settled in, and pages rustled as scripts were flipped. Gradually, the room grew lively—the unmistakable signal that the script reading was about to begin. Hye Yoon felt a touch of nervousness.

“But…”

Just as everyone’s attention shifted away from the two of them, Ji Ho’s presence drifted to Hye Yoon’s ear like a falling leaf. His voice was quieter and lower than usual, so she turned toward him silently.

His profile, focused on the script, looked perfectly composed.

“I missed you.”

“…”

It wasn’t a question expecting an answer—but she couldn’t have given one anyway. As the corners of his mouth lifted, Hye Yoon’s cheeks slowly flushed. Her heart pounded wildly.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
