Bowls of side dishes, bottles of alcohol, and glass tumblers are quickly placed atop the table shielded by a fire screen. The moment Do Hyuk sat down, he popped open a beer bottle as if parched. Spotting Hye Yoon approaching, he poured another glass and set it beside his own seat.

He stared blankly at the white foam bubbling up in the beer. Hye Yoon followed his gaze and sat down next to him.

“By the way, I met Senior Ji Ho recently. We briefly talked about you, Writer.”

“Really?”

“You hadn’t heard that yet….”

He quietly downed a glass of beer.

As if his stifling frustration eased slightly, one of his eyebrows relaxed into a faint, pleased crease. Barely had he set the empty glass down when Do Hyuk reached for the beer bottle again.

“Yeah. It was actually the day of the movie premiere.”

“…I see.”

Hye Yoon murmured a reply so soft it was barely more than a breath. She knew the kind of conversation Ji Ho and Do Hyuk might have had about her wouldn’t have been particularly pleasant.

She didn’t need to struggle to recall that premiere day—it played back in her mind too vividly. Just thinking about it made her feel as if she were standing right there again, because it had been her happiest day.

For her, it had been a day that floated up like a balloon, but Ji Ho must have had moments weighed down by sharp, sinking thoughts. Imagining his day—smiling warmly on the outside while hiding stinging pain—made her heart ache.

“Wow, thinking back on it, it’s still scary. I had no idea he could be so cold and sharp.”

“…”

She also pictured the exact moment when someone usually so skilled at suppressing his emotions had finally snapped. In that moment, even a simple “I see” felt impossible to say.
