Her mother-in-law’s harsh words hadn’t been as sharp as Rachel’s remarks. Because Ariana had endured without crying, her mother-in-law, as if determined to see her weep, had only intensified her attacks.

‘This time, Count Alfrehi hasn’t married yet. The person sent to Alfrehi must appear plausible while actually being disposable—without me, they probably couldn’t find a suitable candidate.’

Alfrehi ran one of the top five largest arms dealers on the continent. To the Western Marquis, whose domain was the weakest militarily among the Four Regions, Alfrehi was an extremely tempting asset—he wouldn’t simply discard him.
