Noticing Cyrus’s hand twitch slightly, Jeor gave a quiet chuckle.

“Shall I draw my sword for you?”

Andrei, startled, turned to look at Cyrus. Instead of drawing his blade, Cyrus offered an elegant smile and said,

“The North Territory was never harsh toward the princess. Why would the Lord of the East Territory think she became a burden to us? Did the princess ever say she found life in the North Territory uncomfortable?”

It was meant to fluster him, yet Jeor remained calm.

“Surely not. Could it be that the Lord of the North Territory thought our Ariana a tattler? Our Ariana isn’t the sort of child who spills every little detail, even if she’s suffered terribly.”

Cyrus knew that well himself.

But he disliked that Jeor knew it too.

“Still, my lord of the North Territory—or rather, I needn’t even address you so formally. Given Isaac’s nature, he wouldn’t have let Ariana celebrate her birthday on the street. Seeing as she left the North Territory without even holding a birthday celebration, I can only guess something must have happened.”
