Ra Jin’s legs trembled uncontrollably.

A glint flashed in her deep, dark eyes—this was no idle threat.

He was determined to take her, and the child, back with him.

What made it utterly hopeless was that there was no way out from here.

Not only was it impossible for her, heavily pregnant as she was, to run with any strength, but the An Ga estate was surrounded by mountains on all sides.

As Seon Hye had once put it, to reach the “outside world,” one absolutely needed transportation and intimate knowledge of the area—otherwise, one might easily lose their way and wander deep into the mountains.

“You’d better not even think about running away.”

Jae Heon spoke as if he’d read her mind.

“Not that you really could—but more than that… unless you want the child to get hurt.”

At the word “child,” Ra Jin flinched, her face turning even paler.

Seeing her desperately clutch her belly, biting her lower lip, made Jae Heon’s heart feel as though it were tearing apart.

That wasn’t at all how he’d meant to speak. He’d wanted to be gentle and kind, knowing how frightened she must be.

But then he’d seen her nervously glancing around, shifting her small feet backward step by anxious step, clearly trying to put distance between them—and his words came out harsh despite himself.

Besides, hearing the very woman he’d longed for—whether his eyes were open or closed—say things like “I’ll never appear before you again, sir,” made it impossible for him to stay composed.

All he could think was that he had to keep Ra Jin with him.
