To the Missing Secretary (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
It was truly an annoying remark. So Jae Heon half defiantly blurted out that it was, in fact, an answer he quite liked.
No—really, it should have been the perfect answer.
He ought to be grateful that she wasn’t using their night together as an excuse to make unreasonable demands.
Of course, he’d accepted her proposal precisely because she wasn’t that sort of person—but human hearts were fickle reeds, often completely different before and after an event occurred.
Just like his uncle.
When his parents were still alive, his uncle had treated him like the most precious nephew in the world. But the moment they passed away, his uncle openly revealed his hidden fangs, blatantly coveting his position.
Yet his secretary was remarkably consistent.
While he himself was utterly shaken, the very person who had unsettled him remained perfectly calm—
as if nothing at all had happened.
That fact irritated him immensely.
No one had ever gotten under his skin like this before.
The lawless intruder who had turned his world upside down turned out to be none other than his own secretary—the very person who had always helped maintain peace in his world.
His night with Ra Jin… had been exceptionally good.
He’d only learned what “ecstasy” truly meant yesterday.
They matched not only in professional rapport but also in physical chemistry.
Yet that wasn’t the only reason Jae Heon was so fixated on Ra Jin.
Last night, while holding her in his arms as he fell asleep, he hadn’t had a nightmare for the first time.
Ever since his parents died in a plane crash, he’d suffered from insomnia.
He’d tried everything said to help with insomnia—
consulted doctors, undergone hypnosis, imported every acclaimed aromatherapy oil and scented candle from around the world.
He frequently changed his bedding, rearranged his interior design multiple times based on feng shui principles, and even sought help from various religions.
It was also why he’d thrown himself into exercise—hoping sheer physical exhaustion would finally let him sleep.
Yet his condition never improved.
Every time he closed his eyes, he vividly saw his parents falling from the plane, their screams echoing loudly in his ears.
Though he hadn’t been at the accident scene, his mind reconstructed the horrifying spectacle with terrifying clarity.
That was why his nerves were always on edge.
But… last night, he’d had no dreams and seen no visions.
He absolutely had to hold onto Ra Jin.
She wasn’t just a capable secretary—she’d now become the only person who could cure his insomnia.
Yes, that was the reason. Nothing more.
Jae Heon took a deep breath, deliberately ignoring the truth that Ra Jin had seemed incredibly endearing last night—and still did.
Now was the time for him to make her an offer.
★★★
Jae Heon summoned Ra Jin to his office.
“You called for me, Director?”
Her usual composed, neat, and calm demeanor—completely unchanged from normal—made Jae Heon’s insides twist furiously.
So, it’s all in the past now, is it?
“What do you think I called you for?”
“Here are yesterday’s meeting minutes and the revised report from Planning Team 1.”
Ra Jin placed the documents on his desk swiftly and precisely—just as always.
Yes, just as always—she showed no sign of disturbance whatsoever.
While he himself was utterly shaken, the very person who had unsettled him remained perfectly calm.
That fact irritated him incredibly, immensely, and genuinely.
“You think I called you just for the meeting minutes?”
“Is there anything else you’d like to discuss?”
“When did you leave? You were gone when I woke up.”
Ra Jin’s pupils, which had been steady until now, flickered slightly.
‘I never expected him to bring this up at the office.’
Though flustered, she replied calmly.
She didn’t want to show any undignified behavior until the day she eventually left.
Trending
She wanted to be remembered as Secretary Sa—thorough, clean-cut, and competent until the very end.
Clearing her throat, she answered as calmly as she could.
“I left at dawn.”
“Why? You came on so boldly last night.”
She moistened her lips with her tongue.
At that gesture, Jae Heon covered his mouth with his hand.
He’d never noticed it before…
But now he realized Ra Jin had unconscious seduction ingrained in her very being.
Actions like moistening her lips with her tongue,
blinking her wide-open eyes,
standing with such perfect posture—
everything Ra Jin did now seemed like temptation to him.
“You left me.”
Ra Jin stared at Jae Heon’s shameless expression with disbelief.
Who did what to whom, exactly?
“I’m quite certain I made it clear last night.”
“Made what clear?”
“Just….”
It was embarrassing to say it herself, but Ra Jin steadied her breath and forced the words out.
“For just one night.”
Jae Heon’s eyes narrowed.
“I never agreed to that.”
When her eyes widened, Jae Heon rubbed his face. See? She’s tempting him again.
“We’ll talk after work.”
“Director, that matter is already—”
“I never said it was over.”
Jae Heon fixed his gaze on the documents.
“You came whenever you pleased—but you won’t be leaving that easily.”
He tapped the table with his index finger and began focusing seriously on the paperwork.
Knowing well that arguing with him in this mood was useless, Ra Jin could only bow slightly and leave the office.
Thunk. The moment the door closed, Jae Heon lifted his head.
‘…I should’ve told her to leave a bit later.’
Whenever Ra Jin was near, a faint, soothing herbal-tea-like fragrance would gently rise, allowing him to work with a clearer mind.
Ah—come to think of it, would she not bring tea today?
Every morning, Ra Jin prepared tea according to his condition. He’d actually looked forward to it—so much so that sometimes he’d eagerly await coming to work.
Hmm. Jae Heon’s mood improved slightly.
“Guess I’m not the only one paying attention.”

“Director, what’s wrong?”
Yoon Hee, having lunch with Ra Jin in the company cafeteria, asked worriedly at Ra Jin’s unusually gloomy expression.
“Did something happen? Did the Director scold you this morning?”
Hmm… should she call it being scolded or not?
“Just a little.”
At Ra Jin’s vague answer, Yoon Hee threw her hands up in exasperation.
“Goodness! What on earth did he say to make your face look so utterly exhausted?”
“Utterly… exhausted…?”
“Yes! You look incredibly drained—as if you exercised intensely last night and collapsed dramatically.”
Thankfully, she wasn’t chewing food at that moment. Otherwise, she might have spat it right onto Yoon Hee’s face.
Well… she had intensely done *something* and collapsed dramatically…
Ra Jin lightly pressed her cheek with the back of her hand.

Remembering Jae Heon’s burning, desire-filled gaze from last night as he looked down at her, her face threatened to flush crimson.
‘Get a grip, Sa Ra Jin! This is the office! And that never happened!’
“Ugh. It’s such a waste of his looks. With that face, that height, that body—if his personality were nice too, would the universe start a war or something?”
“…Yoon Hee, you really shouldn’t badmouth your boss.”
“But it’s the truth!”
Though naturally kind, his personality hadn’t always been this abrasive—Ra Jin suspected his chronic insomnia played a big role, and felt a pang of sympathy.
“Still, the Director holds you in high regard, Yoon Hee.”
“You’re truly an angel, Director. He must’ve built up some serious good karma in his past life to have someone like you as his subordinate.”
“Thanks for saying that.”
“Did I say it? That I admire you immensely?”
“Yes, at least twenty times.”
“Oh dear! I’ve been terribly ungrateful—just talking without acting. So, Team Leader—”
Yoon Hee gave a meaningful smile.
“What’s with that ominous look?”
“I’m trying to turn my ungratefulness into ‘learned virtue.’”
“‘Learned virtue’? What’s that?”
“A delusional fangirl. My friends gave me that nickname because I love pairing people up and fantasizing about them.”
“Wow. You really do come up with all sorts of phrases.”
Seeing Ra Jin laugh lightly, Yoon Hee covered her mouth with her hand.
“In my opinion, you’d suit a cute, refreshing, yet reliable younger man—someone like Associate Seon Ha Kyung, the idol of the Capital Police Department, perhaps?”
In truth, Yoon Hee had been asked by Ha Kyung to introduce him to Ra Jin.
He’d said he’d had a crush on her ever since she joined the company—already a year now.
His feelings had grown uncontrollably, and he could no longer stay silent, so he’d come to Yoon Hee for help.
“Yoon Hee, please. Secretary Sa really likes you, you know.”
“She does seem rather fond of me. I’d say I’m probably the closest person to Secretary Sa in this company.”
“Exactly! Consider this as saving a life—just help me once. I’ll repay you greatly.”
With that, Ha Kyung pressed a dining voucher for a famous restaurant into Yoon Hee’s hand—a place so popular you had to wait weeks even after booking. As a foodie, Yoon Hee couldn’t possibly refuse.
“What’s this? Don’t you know our Director strictly forbids bribes?”
“It’s not a bribe—it’s a gift. So please, I’m counting on you.”
“Well… since you put it that way, I’ll give it a try. I deeply admire and like our Director, after all. And since Associate Seon is so universally praised for his kindness, I’ll help you out. You understand what I mean, right?”
“Of course. I’ll do my best.”
This is for Director’s sake. She’s been so busy adjusting to the Director’s schedule that she’s never properly dated—I have to help her out.
Smiling contentedly, Yoon Hee thought to herself that if Jae Heon ever found out, he’d probably have her executed on the spot.
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
