Eustar gave a smile tinged with both awkwardness and affection, then gently wrapped his arm around Laila’s shoulders. He liked the feel of her head naturally leaning against him—it felt as if he could fall into a long slumber, holding Laila forever.

“I know better than anyone how much you worry about Himiard, Laila. But if you fret so much that it harms your health, I doubt Himiard would be very happy about that.”

“Everyone treats me as if I were a paper doll.”

Eustar chuckled softly—a pleasant, refined sound. He kissed Laila’s temple where she pouted and said,

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ministers are continually monitoring and supporting Himiard’s safety and daily life. They say she’s doing well. The brevity of their reports suggests nothing out of the ordinary—everything’s smooth.”

Laila, lost in thought, finally nodded. Even so, she wouldn’t stop her habit of sending various things to Himiard right away—but at least today she’d avoid getting scolded again by Mel for secretly sewing while avoiding her gaze.

Eustar continued,

“And tomorrow, you promised we’d go out early together, remember? I’d be glad if you’d stop thinking about other things and just look forward to that with excitement.”

“Are you being spoiled?”

“One might say so.”

A soft, deflating sound escaped from between Laila’s lips.

The two had decided to visit the flower market opening early tomorrow morning. Held every three days near the capital square, it was a place Laila had always wanted to see—but this time, for the first time, she’d been the one to say, “Let’s go.”

Leaning comfortably against Eustar with her eyes closed, Laila murmured,

“I’m looking forward to it.”

Just as Eustar tilted his head to kiss her, a soft knock sounded from outside. The door opened slightly, and a tiny, dainty little girl peeked her head through the gap.
