“Your Majesty!”

Laila, who had been sewing, abruptly lifted her head at the soft but scolding tone of the voice. Seeing Mel’s sharp, reproachful eyes fixed on her, Laila tried to subtly hide the sewing in her hands behind her back—but it was no use.

“Your Majesty, did you not hear what the royal physician said? You were clearly told not to sit in one place and strain yourself with tasks requiring close attention.”

Since becoming the head lady-in-waiting to the queen, Mel had grown notably more mature and strict over the past few years. Laila pouted playfully at Mel, then sighed in defeat and pulled the hidden sewing back out onto her lap.

“This much is fine, Mel.”

Mel immediately replied, as if she’d been waiting for this.

“Your Majesty, it’s not fine at all! Have you already forgotten how much you suffered when giving birth to the princess? You were in such distress that not only I, but even His Majesty nearly fainted from worry!”

Laila let out a loud sigh and tapped the table sharply.

“How long ago was that? Why do you always bring that up so unfairly?”

Mel lifted her chin slightly and answered with triumphant confidence.

“No matter how ‘unfair’ you call it, I’ll keep bringing it up every time Your Highness acts like this.”

Laila, looking utterly bewildered, opened and closed her mouth before finally sighing in surrender and leaning back against her chair. As she reclined into the plush backrest, her noticeably large belly beneath her dress became clearly visible.

Mel continued,

“The royal physician has repeatedly emphasized that since you’re carrying twins, Your Majesty must take exceptional care—yet you keep doing this! What if it harms your health?”

She wanted to retort that it was impossible for something like this to harm her health, but she knew that would only trigger Mel’s lecturing for at least two full hours. Still, when Laila glanced furtively at the sewing, Mel inhaled sharply and spoke again.
