While Laila hesitated, searching for words to respond, Eustar lightly touched the back of her hand.

At first, she thought he was urging her to answer, but that wasn’t it. Laila kept gazing into his eyes, which held a faint trace of amusement.

Meeting her own reflection in them, then looking back at his face, she felt as though she could spend an eternity—or close to it—just like this….

Right at that moment, a rattling noise came from the rear of the carriage, followed by an irritated groan.

Startled, Eustar and Laila snapped their heads around.

So flustered was she that Laila didn’t even realize, for an instant, that Eustar had pulled her close with one arm. After a few more jostling sounds, a small head popped up over the seat.

Glancing between wide-eyed Eustar and Laila, Muuge spoke in a disinterested tone.

“What are you two gawking at like a pair of dunces?”

She roughly smoothed her tousled hair and slid over the seat. Eustar, as if encountering a wild beast, kept Laila tucked firmly against his side, and seeing this, Muuge snorted once again.

“What are you doing here, Olga?”

Eustar glanced toward the luggage compartment Muuge had emerged from and asked,

“Why were you hiding back there?”

Arms crossed and wearing a displeased expression, Muuge answered,

“I couldn’t stand all the humans swarming about, nor that inexplicably energetic Od Hyenmorick, and I was thoroughly fed up with that castle—so I looked for somewhere quiet. And now this? That’s what I’d like to ask.”

Laila was slightly taken aback by Muuge’s blunt manner of speaking.
