Laila approached Olga’s side as if entranced.

Olga spoke as though commanding Laila not to touch anything, then muttered an incantation under her breath while tapping a few crystals with her fingers—a language from ancient times that Laila couldn’t fully understand.

“Now watch closely.”

When Olga pulled upward on the darkest crystal like a lever, a rippling motion suddenly appeared within the previously empty hole, as though it had filled with water.

Laila leaned forward as if about to be sucked inside, completely focused on the movement. Once the shimmering waves spreading outward from the center stilled, she could clearly see wounded knights shouting as they moved with drawn swords.

An expression of wonder appeared on Laila’s face.

“It truly feels like magic.”

Olga replied with indifference.

“What a ridiculous thing for a witch to say. Is it because you’re young? It *is* magic—plain and simple magic. Now look—the one over there. Sinks are hidden in rivers, so they’re hard to spot, but that creature keeps circling that exact spot like it’s guarding a nest.”

The vision shifted slightly. The movement felt so natural, as if someone had turned their gaze, that Laila nearly turned her head too.

Once the knights vanished from view, the red head and body of a monster appeared, glowing like boiling lava. It resembled an enormous crocodile, yet far more ferocious.

Eustar spoke.

“Does it flee into the river when attacked?”

“Of course. Once it moves in the river, it’s impossible to catch up—not even you, Eustar, would manage it.”

“Didn’t you give the team any magical devices?”
