Upon hearing Laila’s question, Eustar’s eyes widened slightly. Laila couldn’t understand why he reacted that way… and the brief moment of waiting for his reply felt as long as several years.

After a heavy silence—felt only by Laila—Eustar suddenly burst into laughter. His voice sounded unusually clear and refreshing.

“Was that truly the first thing you wanted to ask me?”

Laila stared at him with wide eyes.

“Of course it was. Well, I suppose there were many other things I could’ve asked first. But… you’re the Crown Prince? You, really?”

Eustar leaned his chin sideways with a relaxed smile, like a mischievous trickster who’d just set a trap.

“Yes. Let me formally introduce myself, Miss Laila. My name is Eustar Hyenmorick. I am the Crown Prince of the Searrow Kingdom and also the Director-General of Tentinella. You deduced this information earlier, but I’m repeating it once more—I’m worried the shock might have made you forget.”

Hyenmorick. Now that he mentioned it, Laila recalled he’d never stated his surname when introducing himself before. Even if he had, whether she’d have caught on immediately was another matter entirely…

Watching Laila’s ever-changing expression with obvious amusement, Eustar finally spoke again.

“I’ve heard witches usually show very little emotion, yet you seem quite different.”

Laila replied.

“Well, maybe I’m just an odd one. My mother sometimes thought the same about me. Well, she didn’t exactly say it out loud—but somehow I always knew. I wasn’t raised unloved or anything, but every time I realized that, I felt… as though I wasn’t truly born of her flesh and blood.”

“So what you’re saying is… your mother found you in the middle of a field overflowing with chicory, like in those old fairy tales?”

“I suppose that could be true. After all, my mother wasn’t a medium… though she was certainly a remarkable witch.”

She fell silent for a moment, then suddenly remembered something and looked down at the unfamiliar dress she was wearing.
