Sigrid thrashed about, struggling to escape from the water, but it was no easy task. Eustar tried everything he could to pull Muuge out from the invisible barrier, but none of his attempts worked.

“Damn it!”

When his sword bounced back, Eustar, unable to hold back any longer, cursed aloud and gasped for breath. Laila was so intensely focused on restraining Sigrid that she couldn’t help him.

Faint noises kept reaching her ears—the sound of Muuge’s body slowly, gradually breaking apart—and it set Laila’s nerves on edge. Sigrid, submerged in water, was still alive but appeared nearly unconscious.

Even as she remained wholly focused on keeping Sigrid imprisoned, Laila strained her mind to its limits. Magical artifacts were useless. Eustar’s brute strength offered no solution either. Then… perhaps…

“Huh…!”

Laila’s body lurched violently forward as she stood rooted in place, channeling all her strength.

It felt as if someone had struck her back with a massive, heavy whip. Though there was no pain, the sensation of her ribcage snapping forward and her breath catching in her throat was startlingly vivid.

“Laila!”

She faintly heard Eustar cry out in alarm at the sight of her.

Even his figure, rushing toward her with sword in hand, seemed to move in slow motion… Laila felt her entire body filling with a scalding heat, as if she were about to burst.

—Aaagh—!

As Eustar moved to support Laila, he turned toward Sigrid, who let out a scream. The water coiled around her in serpentine form was slowly collapsing, thick steam billowing up like dense fog.

Sigrid writhed in agony within the boiling water. Her wrinkled skin was visibly reddening as it scorched.

The wall of water, crumbling bit by bit, vanished entirely with a loud crash, as if a dam had burst and unleashed a pent-up river all at once. It was just then that Eustar tried to turn his body to shield Laila.
