Laila and Eustar’s eyes met. When they heard a sound from beyond the wall, they realized the path glowing beneath their feet had vanished. Only then could they be certain.

Muuge was here. Inside this place.

The gaps between the bricks began to widen, and one by one, the bricks shifted from their positions. They moved as if living creatures were making way. Behind them emerged a door, deep brown and made of solid metal.

Laila noticed the latch on the doorknob was drooping downward. When she grasped it to lift it up, it felt brittle and dry.

It felt like touching iron heavily rusted, its surface jagged and sharp, and once again a stinging pain pricked the inside of her palm.

“Be careful, Laila.”

Eustar said. Laila pulled the latch up with all her strength and pushed the door at the same time. A heavy, metallic scraping sound echoed.

It felt less like the sound of opening a door… and more like the sound of pushing aside layers upon layers of accumulated time. At least, that’s how it felt to Laila.

“Good heavens.”

The moment the door opened and Laila stepped inside, a faint, trembling groan escaped her lips. Eustar, too, stood speechless, staring blankly at the scene before him.

In the center of the pitch-black, empty room was Muuge. She floated in midair, enveloped in a translucent light, her shoulders, hips, elbows, and knees all fractured or shattered.

Moreover, her face was cracked and split like poorly fired pottery, and it continued to break apart before their eyes.

“Miss Olga!”

As Laila rushed inside, she suddenly realized someone else was in the room besides Muuge.

It was too dark—only the area around Muuge glowed faintly—so the shadowed corners were pure darkness. The moment she heard sobbing from the unseen depths, Laila froze, a chill running down her spine.
