Ivy lightly grumbled and turned to look at the count.

“Now, thanks to it, you even have to play nursemaid to me. What am I to do about this?”

At Ivy’s playful self-mockery, the count glanced sharply at her, then replied as coldly as ever.

“Have you ever given me even a moment to act as your nursemaid?”

“Well, I’m past the age that needs a nursemaid, after all.”

“Yet you’re still getting scolded by the butler.”

“Hmm, that stings. I’ll overcome this issue soon enough.”

Ivy declared cheerfully.

Anyone else would have smiled at such cuteness, but the count’s face remained as cold and mask-like as ever. Moreover, for some reason, he kept repeatedly thumping his own chest with his fist.

Because of this, Ivy—who had only been trying to lighten the mood—ended up feeling awkward for no good reason.

In truth, Ivy had wanted to be alone. Her earlier grimace and muttered “Ugh, an intruder” when the count arrived hadn’t been a joke—it had been genuine.

Still, since she had to maintain a cordial relationship with the count, she’d kindly offered him the seat beside her. Yet the count kept acting as if he’d been dragged there against his will, remaining stubbornly aloof.

“My lord, you can just go back inside. I’m more comfortable alone, anyway.”

Unable to bear it any longer, Ivy finally spoke up.
