Luisa’s body was pulled tightly into Edward’s embrace by the large hand that wrapped around her shoulder. With her cheek pressed against his chest, Luisa flustered and cried out.

“W-what are you—suddenly…!”

“Why? Why are you so flustered?”

“You’re the one who’s unwell—what nonsense are you saying?”

Luisa pushed against his chest with both hands to create some distance. When she looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes, Edward gave a subtle smile and asked,

“A married couple is better off sharing one room rather than sleeping apart. It looks affectionate—what’s not to like? What on earth were you thinking?”

His teasing grin was utterly infuriating. Luisa pouted her lips and muttered,

“What was I thinking? That kind of…”

Her cheeks flushed bright red.

‘Of all days, it had to be today.’

Luisa bitterly ruminated on the day’s unfortunate timing.

They hadn’t had any real physical contact for a while, so she hadn’t been particularly self-conscious—yet now, right before her eyes, stood the very man who, just hours ago, had devoured her so intensely she could hardly breathe. Naturally, her thoughts had immediately veered in that direction.

Once she became aware of it, every little detail about her husband kept catching her eye.

His damp, slightly tousled bangs, likely from the warmth of sleep; his deep-set eyes, strikingly intense in the soft lamplight; the bridge of his nose accentuated by pronounced shadows; lips unusually red, perhaps from fever; his sharp jawline; the elegant line of his neck leading down past his loosely open collar to reveal his collarbone.

Not knowing where to look, she dropped her gaze. Edward, sensing her discomfort, leaned in closer and asked,
