Gu Won Hoo briefly stepped out of the party hall, saying he’d see his parents off.

Meanwhile, Do Soon had moved to the outdoor area behind the annex and was pacing in circles around the empty pool, lost in thought.

“What? Getting married? Wow, Gu Won Hoo is so ridiculous, seriously!”

Although she knew it was just part of the act, her heart had started pounding the moment she heard those words—and it still hadn’t calmed down.

After who-knew-how-many laps around the pool, Do Soon finally felt how sore her feet were and sank down onto a sunbed, muttering to herself.

“Tch, he didn’t even moisten his lips before lying. Just how often does someone have to lie to speak so effortlessly?”

But that wasn’t even the most upsetting part.

She’d gone to such great lengths to look pretty for him—styling her hair in a feminine updo, choosing the perfect dress, everything.

And yet, what was this?

Even if he couldn’t say she looked beautiful, at least he should have searched for her when she disappeared—it was only common decency and loyalty! Thirty minutes was more than enough time to find her, yet he hadn’t even called, let alone shown his face. Or maybe… did he actually prefer it this way, now that she was gone?

After all, he’d already achieved today’s goal—showing his parents he had someone to marry.

As time passed, her hope that Gu Won Hoo would come looking for her slowly faded. Instead, her self-loathing only deepened—how pathetic of her to keep thinking about someone who clearly wasn’t coming. Gazing at the pool shimmering under the moonlight, Do Soon began pulling out hairpins one by one from her hair.

It was as if she’d just discovered a part of herself she never knew existed. She’d been startled by how lovely her reflection looked in the mirror.

She’d been so fond of this hairstyle—but now it was utterly useless. Her fingers, heavy with resentment, tugged at her hair so fiercely it was unclear whether she was removing pins or taking out her frustration.

“Ugh… Why does it hurt so much?”
