“So you’re saying your wife possesses an extraordinary ability, and she’s using that power to grow those flowers from the demon realm over there—and those very flowers are being used to kill you? Is that what you’re telling me right now?”

Kaius slowly nodded, his gaze drifting toward Ariel inside the greenhouse. Watching him, Lucifer let out a sigh from between his lips, sounding almost like a groan.

“…Then, once they succeed in killing you, the war will begin anew.”

“So I’ve been told.”

Kaius spoke as if it were someone else’s affair, utterly composed. This nonchalance drew a wry smile from Lucifer’s lips—and then bewilderment. Only now did everything fall into place in his mind. And that wasn’t all: he also needed to tell Kaius that he desperately required that woman’s help, yet had no idea how to even begin broaching the subject. After staring at Kaius for a long while, Lucifer finally turned his eyes back toward the greenhouse with a quiet sigh.

Slowly. The more urgent it was, the more slowly he had to proceed.

“She suggested we go to the demon realm to rescue Aliune. Apparently, doing so would neutralize Zaphros and save my life.”

Judging by their manner of speaking, there seemed to be no secrets between them. That actually made things easier. With a noticeably lighter heart, Lucifer leapt down from the railing and walked back toward the sofa.

“I suppose I should take your advice and have some tea first. This seems like it’s going to be a long conversation.”

It appeared his wife had already told him everything—but how on earth had a human woman come to know all these things? Though suspicion filled his mind, none of that mattered right now.

The only thing that mattered was that Kaius’s wife was the one person capable of cultivating Zaphros—the very nourishment Aliune required—and he, in turn, could bring back an Aliune for her. As long as that arrangement held, he too could receive the help he needed.

Despite his calm expression, Lucifer’s heart beat faster than it ever had since birth. Even that unpleasant sensation, he found himself accepting with surprising pleasure.

If only the seal could be lifted—if only that came to pass—then everything would proceed exactly as destined, in accordance with the natural order.
