From Ariel’s lips, parted in bewilderment as she stared at him, a short gasp escaped. She had finally realized what Kaius wanted her to prove by the way he sat leaning against the headboard, gazing at her body.

She had resolved countless times not to reject him, yet she never imagined a situation like this would actually arise. While she stood helplessly paralyzed, unsure what to do, Kaius’s gaze steadily darkened.

“I can’t wait long.”

Ariel stared at him, her eyes wide with profound confusion and fear, her face pale. Kaius’s smiling expression revealed no emotion whatsoever.

“But… just you, my lord…”

Ariel struggled to speak, her hands tightly twisting the hem of her nightgown.

“Ariel, proof is something you give yourself.”

With that sigh-like utterance, Kaius fell silent once more. It was boring, certainly—but he could afford to wait. After all, the joy of her coming to him willingly would be far greater.

Resigned, Ariel inched slightly closer to him. Kneeling to match his eye level, her face was already flushed bright red. Believing lightly brushing her lips against his would suffice, she summoned her courage, leaned against his shoulder for support, and pressed a fleeting kiss upon his lips.

“Again.”

At his low command, Ariel’s ears turned scarlet as she squeezed her eyes shut and lingered a little longer on his lips this time. Kaius, watching her fumble awkwardly through a simple kiss, wiped away every last trace of his suspicion. Yet he couldn’t let the moment pass so easily.

“Again.”

His voice sank even lower. Regardless of his motive, the pleasure of seeing a woman who had always pushed him away now approach him of her own accord was quite significant.

“This isn’t really a relationship that needs some kind of… proof like th—”
