Her eyes were closed beneath the blanket pulled up to her chin, long lashes casting soft shadows, her slightly parted red lips, and silver hair flowing neatly over the pillow. It defied belief—but she was undeniably her.

Even with the light on, Ariel showed no sign of opening her eyes. The steady rise and fall of her chest confirmed she was fast asleep. Kaius’s eyes darkened.

Ariel was on his bed.

The moment he fully grasped the situation, Kaius’s Adam’s apple slowly bobbed, though he hadn’t noticed it himself. As he reached out to wake her, he suddenly remembered he wasn’t yet ready for bed.

“Hah…”

With a sigh that sounded almost like a groan, he pulled back his hand and straightened his posture.

Ariel had come to him herself.
