There's a Snake in the Empress' Bedroom (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
There was a reason behind Canaria’s malice toward Renisha.
Canaria despised, more than anyone else, the fact that she had once been a lowly maid who washed Renisha’s feet.
Her self-loathing had spilled over onto Renisha.
Thus, Canaria put on an even more refined air, scorned the maids who cared for her, and still hated Renisha for continuing to ignore her.
It was an inferiority complex she could never reveal to the Emperor.
Especially now, when even the Emperor himself seemed to harbor a certain inferiority toward Renisha.
If Canaria were to expose this, she might be pitifully cast aside.
Canaria’s lips trembled faintly.
With sharply glinting eyes, she spat out her words as if chewing them bitterly.
“Even so, isn’t my position still better than yours, Your Majesty—the discarded Empress? Do you even know what His Majesty is thinking?”
Canaria walked lightly over and sat in the chair opposite Renisha.
“This is top-secret information I’m sharing only with you, Your Majesty. His Majesty is planning to send you to the slave Cassius.”
Canaria smiled gently.
Canaria had not the slightest desire to leave this imperial palace.
Her absolute standard lay in the privileges she enjoyed here.
Surely the Empress would feel insulted by these words—she must be.
Moreover, a former slave! Someone of even lower status than Canaria herself.
Last night, when she’d coaxed the Emperor into revealing this, she could barely contain her soaring elation.
At last, Renisha would be beneath Canaria.
“Oh? How… unfortunate.”
Renisha replied calmly.
Canaria gritted her teeth. Renisha’s unexpected composure scratched at her insides.
Canaria glared venomously at Renisha.
“…Since we’ve shared so much time together, please bare your true feelings. This Canaria will kindly comfort you. How deeply wounded you must feel—it’s practically the same as being banished from the palace.”
“Oh. I’m perfectly fine. I’m simply grateful you’re worried about me.”
What on earth?
Had Renisha gone foolish?
Canaria bit down hard on her lips.
“A slave.”
Canaria muttered in a low voice.
“A slave even lower than my own station, Your Majesty. You’re being sent to such a person? And to barren Hiloshain, no less? You’ll be sent to the most desolate land once held by Rotera. But that’s not all, is it? That slave is to be granted the Rotera name. Rotera!”
At that, even Renisha hesitated for a moment.
But it was so fleeting that Canaria didn’t even notice.
Rexus had closed the door of House Rotera with his own hands.
Yet now he was bestowing the Rotera name upon Cassius?
It was undeniably a malicious scheme.
But if she thought differently… it might actually be a blessing.
She no longer needed to struggle to restore Rotera’s standing.
Rexus surely knew how much could be accomplished under the Rotera name—so what was his true intention?
‘Or… does he truly disdain Rotera? Is this vile move meant solely to humiliate me?’
It was a name that could stir the old nobility, a name that could rally knights who once drew swords under Rotera for the Chorpa Plains.
‘Unless… he intends to sweep them all away at once.’
He might even be hoping Renisha would act exactly as she is.
Gathering people, reviving Rotera—
And then pinning another rebellion on her.
‘That won’t happen.’
Rotera would not be toyed with twice according to Rexus’s whims.
Renisha smiled smoothly.
“Canaria, you’re still so full of worries—just as you were in your days as Jessica, serving me.”
Canaria’s face turned deathly pale.
Trending
Jessica was the name she’d used when working as a maid.
The moment she entered the Emperor’s chamber, she’d begged Rexus incessantly.
She’d asked for a new name.
She would now live as the Emperor’s own, and thus needed a beautiful name befitting her new status.
Delighted, Rexus had granted her one.
That name was Canaria.
“Don’t… utter that name, Your Majesty.”
It was Canaria who was furious now.
Before Renisha’s calm demeanor, Canaria laid bare her inner turmoil.
“Why? I think that name suits you better. Canaria is the name of a bird that lived long in the palace—a pitiful creature whose wings were clipped, never once allowed outside its cage. Is that truly a good name?”
Renisha casually struck Canaria’s most painful spot.
Canaria chewed on her crimson lips.
She knew this well herself.
When she’d realized the name she’d wheedled out through flattery was merely “Canaria,” she’d been so furious she could barely hold back tears.
But it was a name given by an Emperor who, beneath a gentle facade, nurtured a monster within.
Canaria had no choice but to become Canaria.
“Do you know how that bird met its end?”
“……”
“It was forgotten by everyone—even the gardener. No more food, no more water, and the bird stopped singing. It died alone, utterly forgotten.”
Canaria couldn’t possibly misunderstand Renisha’s meaning.
She, too, would meet the same fate as that bird.
A consort who sings only when the Emperor wishes—and is eventually discarded.
With refined cruelty, Renisha had once again exposed Canaria’s shame.
Canaria’s vision reddened with rage.
She slowly closed her eyes, then opened them again.
Renisha gestured toward Lindey.
“I’m thinking of having a fresh cup of tea. Will you stay longer?”
Canaria shook her head and rose from her seat.
“No, Your Majesty. This is enough for me. I only came to share a pleasant chat. I hope you understand my respect and concern for you.”
“I always… know your heart.”
Canaria nodded and left the room.
Renisha watched her retreating figure.
“Why does she keep recklessly challenging what she can never achieve?”
Lindey, the head maid, asked with clear frustration in her voice.
“She never stops challenging me, hoping that someday she’ll surpass me. What a pitiful life.”
Renisha turned her head.
Going to Cassius in Hiloshain under the Rotera name was actually a fortunate turn.
Canaria had unwittingly given her the answer to her recent frustrations.
She would start anew from Hiloshain.
With that fiery man who gazed at her with intense eyes.
Far more promising than lingering hopelessly within the palace walls.
The evening banquet, where everyone’s desires converged.
Cassius stood awkwardly before the banquet hall, fidgeting with his clothes.
‘You truly wear it well. You’ll be wearing such attire often from now on, so you must grow accustomed to it. You truly look like a noble now.’
Could one really pass as nobility with just a single set of fine clothes?
Madam Turiel had delivered a long lecture to Cassius on the importance of attire.
She’d also taught him essential etiquette he absolutely needed to know, all within a short time.
‘Was this also the Empress’s request?’
‘No. I was only asked to handle your outfit. But I wanted to ensure, at the very least, that you wouldn’t cause her any trouble. She’s already overwhelmed by her own circumstances.’
Cassius muttered to himself.

“Trouble…”
He needed to understand what schemes these people were plotting before he could respond.
No matter how hard Terrion ran on his two feet, he couldn’t glimpse the Emperor’s true thoughts within the palace.
Terrion had uncovered only a few facts.
Nine years ago, Renisha had married Emperor Rexus.
Rexus had become Emperor through the power of Rotera.
One year later, House Rotera was pushed by the Emperor into going to war.
And five years ago, the Emperor took Renisha’s maid as his consort.
Though countless women had passed by the Emperor’s side, she was the one who had remained by him the longest.
Her name was Canaria.
People said she was beautiful, yet vulgar.
They also claimed Canaria’s malice toward Renisha was beyond words.
“Tch. And that’s what they call a husband.”
Cassius muttered and stepped into the banquet hall.
Inside, many guests had already gathered—those invited by the Emperor.
“Where should I sit?”
“This way, my lord.”
The head steward, who had invited Cassius, guided him to his seat.
It was the second seat to the right of the head table.
Cassius frowned.
The Emperor had no reason to treat him so well.
Was this an attempt to make up for past mistreatment? He’d been seated above even the other nobles.
Yet no one voiced any complaint; all remained quietly respectful.
Soon, the banquet hall doors opened.
“Oh dear. Am I late, Canaria?”
Canaria winked playfully as she spoke,
emphasizing her own name as if to highlight her identity.
“My seat is here, I presume?”
Canaria sat to the left of the head table.
As far as Cassius knew, Canaria was also of common birth, yet she sat above even the nobles.
It was truly a bizarre sight.
Their eyes met. Canaria gave a sweet smile.
“So you’re Lord Cassius? The hero who saved our empire!”
“……”
“Let’s be friends from now on, Lord Cassius. Our names are quite similar, aren’t they? Canaria, Cassius—they both start with the same letter, don’t they?”
“They’re different.”
Cassius frowned slightly and cut her off sharply.
“What?”
“The ‘Ca’ in Canaria uses a C, while my name Cassius uses a K. Just because they sound alike doesn’t mean they’re spelled the same.”
“What do you…? Usually, the name Cassius is spelled with…”
Cassius sighed wearily.
“Yes, it’s normally spelled with a C. However, there was once an Emperor named Cassius, and ever since then, that name has never been written with a C. So, I suppose there’s no reason for us to be friends.”
Canaria’s face flushed red.

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
