Holding Vivian, who was shivering violently while completely soaked, he returned to the mansion.

After handing the lifeless, limp Vivian over to Sophie, he instructed her to bathe her in warm water. Pale-faced Sophie choked back tears as if she were looking at someone on the verge of death.

Edwin also returned to his room and sank his body into a warm bathtub. Instantly, the cold sensation from the lake grew even sharper in his memory.

Thick steam rose and filled the bathroom. As the chill vanished and only warmth remained, his tired eyes slowly closed.

Leaning his head against the tub, Edwin quietly replayed the scene at the lake.

The gray eyes that had looked down at him from the water’s surface rippled in his mind, conveying their bewilderment and inner turmoil perfectly clear.

Vivian had been foolish—neither wise nor rational, but driven purely by emotion.

Even regarding the incident fourteen years ago, wasn’t it precisely her naively kind nature that ultimately led to this outcome? And yet, Vivian still hadn’t learned a thing; she had willingly thrown herself into the lake again.
